Touch wood we haven't had any of these for a long long time, I use to keep a whistle next to the phone for just such calls..
The last call we got dh said "OMG I'm out feeding the cattle right now, give me a number where I can reach you and when I get back to the house I'll call you back. They hung up. We have caller id like I'm sure most of you do but have you noticed when you call that # back it won't go thru? And what is so funny is that they don't give up, give them a few months and they will call back. Do they really think we are that gullible? Hugs..Carol
I put the phone in front of the TV with a Japanese speaking video playing. I kept asking them to hold on while I set it up, saying my computer was not on... they did not stay on the line the last time I did this. I think they may be catching on that I am on to them. Lol!
When i get these calls my caller id comes up overseas my d/h gets on the phone and says in an angry voice yeah what do you want..result the phone is very quickly hung up at the other end.....and sometimes the call comes in as private and i toldl them i do not have a computer his reply "you should be ashamed of yourself in the day and age not having a computer" and my reply before hanging up was "and you should be ashamed of yourself trying to rip people off."....soozie
I also got 4 calls last week. I can See the number on my home phone. Each time it is only 3 numbers. (004, 005, 009 then 035) Also when I asked what there number was, they just hang up as soon as I start asking questions. So please be alert at all times.
I don't usually answer the phone if its a number I don't recognise but as I was expecting a call I picked up the phone that doesn't show the number. There was a international call every 10 mins when at my daughters last week
I get at least 4-5 scam phone calls a week. The scams range from computer issues, to home security, to you have a friend who has paid for you to have an ID call alert button. They all want information. You can hang up on them, you can be rude to them, you can be nice to them, you can threaten to report them, nothing you do will stop the calls from continuing. They do it over and over in hopes that one day they may get lucky and get the information they need. My best defense has been caller ID and a message machine. I only answer calls I recognize and if I don't someone will leave a message. Very few scam phone calls are left on the message machine. One thing that all theses scams are really doing is making older people suspicious and skeptical of everyone.
Even here in South Africa I am constantly plagued by these calls..I use many different answers like I do not own a computer or even say I am not interested in their scam. This does not seem to stop the calls as there are several different people making them. I have Identity call and the numbers mostly start with 0007/6. So annoying!! Beware.
I can't even count how many of those calls we have had this summer!!
They don't give up easily either!! I finally got one of them to give me a number to call and check on them but promptly threw it in the trash. Come to think of it, we haven't had any calls lately, maybe that worked.
When I have asked for a number I am told it is not their policy to give it out. Guess you were lucky to get one. Shirley
I also got one of these calls. The person could barely speak English. I just hung up...
I also got one of these calls told me if I didn't do as they wanted my computer would crash imediately. I told them "Let it crash and I will buy a new one." They haven't bothered me anymore.
I got an identic phone call there in Germany. I was asked in english for some informations and I answered only, if you are really from windows support team, you would know my mailadress and not my phone number, forget it. This was enouhg for him and he hung up also.
I, too, have received this call many times. I surprised the last caller by telling him what he was going to do. He hung up on me. That was fun.
Everyone please beware.
I like this comment. In the last call we had my husband answered the phone and then said to me that was a scam.
Just got an E-Mail from the System Mechanic folks indicating that they are having the same problem with people calling representing themselves as System Mechanic personnel and saying they have noticed problems with your computer security, and wanting remote access to your computer to "fix" your security issues...System Mechanic will NEVER make phone calls...so, again, BEWARE!!!
I also got a call from a person claiming to be an IRS officer They gave a badge # and I had to call immediately to avoid getting into further trouble. It was kind of scary and someone not realizing it was a scam might have called the number. It wasn't a real person it was a computer generated voice. I heard there are scams out there that if you even call the number you can be charged several hundreds of dollars. Be careful if it sounds to good to be true don't believe it and if it's anybody in authority like the IRS They would Send a Letter.
Awful that these people are still doing this. I'm glad you were wise and didn't take the bait.
They are still making calls to folks in the USA and Canada too. Thank you for reminding Cuties to be safe.
Remember -- Microsoft will never call you to offer support.
Thanks for the tip off. Haven't had a call like this for ages.
