Its winter here, but every time I look out through one of the windows which looks out onto the backyard I see orange.These photos were taken on the shorteset day of the year although the Vireya (Tropical Rhododendron) has been in flower since early May.I don't think it should be flowering in winter.

Photo 2 is called Java
Photo 3 is called Shimbu Sunset.

I love beautiful flowers and really enjoy visiting Botanical Gardens. This is a beautiful view you have . Here in Ala. temps hit 100 degrees plus yesterday, it's hot summer, the flowers are going to suffer from all this heat but everything is blooming right now/Lillian

My flowers aren't doing too well. Yours look lovely. My garden is mainly purple and white.
Azaleas, not snow!
Passed a house with masses of purple miniature orchids this evening while mine have one measly looking flower left on it. Guess it is too cold here for them or maybe it was the wild winds this past week that did them all in.?.. (Sunny Sydney with 6 degree mornings)

Its warmer near the sea than in Sydney.We had to go to Sydney 10 days ago to the eye hospital & I didn't feel warm again until we got home.The garden is protected from some of the cold winds & its been 23 -25 degrees on the pergola.The weather seems to delight in ruining any white flowers when they are in full bloom.

I'm really confused here...our flowers in winter time come in the form of snowflakes! I also gather since Ms. Chris has seen your garden you are some place in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia or NZ.

You've guessed it .We have had some extremely cold winds lately, so it is snowing down in the Snowy mountains or the wind is coming up from the south pole. I just noticed that there is a freesia in bud which will opened in a few days, wondering if spring is coming early again this year.

Hi Leaha, yes Judy lives at The Entrance which is only about a 3/4 of an hour drive away from me on the Central Coast. I live in Jewells, Newcastle, so if I have a good run I can be down there in under an hour. Love Chris

Thanks for the explanation ladies, this is just such a foreign concept. When I think of winter it's ice, snow, sleet, grey skies, lots of wind, no flowers, no leaves, just a whole bunch of resting plants. The flowers are gorgeous! What a wide wonderful diversified world we live in!!! :-}

What beautiful flowers do they have a fragrance? the leaves remind me a little of frangipani but only smaller..

The wind blew off nearly all the camellia flowers ,which now are decorating the ground instead of the bushes.
