Hanging storage for hoops. At the moment I separate hooks for my hoops, but I wanted to reduce the number of holes in the wall. I also wanted to try out the Urban Threads "sewing sleeve" designs (which I have placed horizontally rather than vertically.) The main fabric was from the stash Scottie left to me, so we will have a connection while I am sewing. (As if we didn't already!)

Overall, I am pleased with the finished product, but I have had to put two of the hoops in backwards to equalise the weight so it hangs straight. This is bad for my OCD!

This is what i need i also did the hook thing and i just hate it really i put the hooks on a wooden shelf i have i would love to make something as pretty as this and able to display it so proudly as you did, is there a pattern for this someplace ? or just something you made up because you are so talented? would love to know thank you so much for sharing your project something you should be very proud of..Hugs...Libby

No pattern - I laid the hoops on the floor to work out the overlap and the overall size. I cut a piece of calico as a backing and added the pockets according to my original layout. The whole thing was then covered with a piece of fabric for the lining, I stitched this down the sides and across the bottom, turned it through and stitched the top over the coat hanger.

Love this idea. I need a safer place for my hoops than the pokey out thing on the side of the 6 needle's stand. Since I will have a new place to sew in just a couple of weeks I should make one for my new home. :)

Thanks for the great idea - I was looking for some kind of storage for my hoops but not able to find anything big enough for my extra long hoop - this will work perfectly.

Nice way to store them and the design looks great horizontally as well.

These sleeve designs are quite versatile. They come in three sections so you can combine them how you like.

this is a great idea Sue. Probably should be making one myself! My hoops are not stored very well.

Brilliant! The asymmetry doesn't bother me in this case since they are equal~ 2 going left and 2 going right. ;)

Fabulous! I can see that you put a lot of thought into this. Sometimes you really have to think ahead when you start from scratch. This project is as useful as it is attractive. Well done!

I always spend a lot of time thinking before I actually start to make, but there is often a little snag I hadn't planned for!

this may sound crazy to you, but when I do something to hang, I add some little bb's ( like in bb guns) in the hem and this helps to keep it down and helps with the weigth....

I've done that as well, but this doesn't need any more weight!

I really like this, my tip on the smaller hoops pocket . Measure both sides after you have hoop inside and sew a line there you will have a small pocket on each side for maybe tape measure, etc. I think it might work to help it hang straight.

spendlove by spendlove 26 May 2014

I was thinking along those lines - a ruler pocket maybe. (I can never find mine!)

spendlove by spendlove 26 May 2014

That won't work because it overlaps the pocket above it. I've improved it no end by putting a piece of mounting board in the bottom .

imagona2 by imagona2 26 May 2014

How would it work if you started with the empty pocket on top then the smaller hoop etc ?

spendlove by spendlove 27 May 2014

Too late to change now! I started with the largest at the top to keep the most frequently used ones at the bottom within easy reach.

Thanks - strangely, the smaller ones are a bigger problem because they aren't wide enough to fill the pocket.

pinon by pinon 26 May 2014

That's terrific! I love this, the fabric you used, the colors are so pretty. Guess there's now another project on my never ending to do list. LOL

I think the hoop holder turned very nicely. The largest hoop is always the one I have difficulty finding a place for. The 8" hoop is my favorite, so it gets the most use. Maybe, one day I will attempt to make a hoop holder. Thanks for sharing it!
