After posting the photos of my furture grand-daughter-in-law's bridal shower in Personals, asterixsew raised my curosity about how other peoples customs, of preparing for a wedding, and gift-giving at 'showers' or not,are done. How do you do it in your part of this world? I am in the USA so after your tell, please state what country you live in.Thanks

In the northeastern part of the US, these showers are a surprise. Well of course, you know it's going to happen!! Hugs. Nan W

Here in UK we give presents on the wedding day. This has all become very organised nowadays. The couple make a wish list and you pick something from it to buy. Often the wish list is hosted by a particular retailer. It is sad really and has taken the spontaneity away.

That is what I mean by registering, they choose items like you said, at a favorite store. The only difference we bring items/gifts to the Bridal shower /party.....Sometimes I feel it's sad too,but other times it helps if you are unsure of their taste. Thanks for UK info-Toogie

In the South (USA) the shower is more likely to be hosted by family members and they usually give a very big (expensive) gift. My Yankee aunt/godmother was shocked by this! I remember that one of m showers was a Blue Shower, blue being my favorite color then. This freed people up to spend at any price level and participate in the shower. For another one, the hostess asked each guest to write a poem to go with the gift. They were hysterical.
