For those who use a USB drive to enter designs on your Brother machines... a question. Do you put the designs in folders, or do they just have to be in a list? Thanks so much! Also, do you know if you can use your design memory cards by reading them by plugging them into the USB port and reading them through the memory card reader?

I plug my card reader into my Quattro and read all my cards through it. It can read any pes card. Babylock and Simplicity cards are the same size and pes and I use them on my Quattro. I have also hooked my Babylock card reader to my Quattro and used it when I had my Brother reader hooked to my Laptop. Hope this helps.

You can view designs in folders via USB on your machine?? Mine won't do that. I have a Brother Quattro 4500. Maybe they have made some advancements since mine was made?
Congratulations on the new machine. I hope you love it!

As far as I know, the 4500 is the Duetta and not the Quattro. The Duetta is in the Innov-is line, which started with the 4000. The Quattro started with the 6000 and went up to 6750 and then the Dream Machine appeared. It's as clear as mud, isn't it? So many machines and models and they come one right after another, usually right after you've bought the very latest one. lol

I have Brother innov -is750e also a Brother PE 150 I use memory card and also usb stick I only add designs I want to stitch then delete. I keep my designs in folders on my laptop in categories so easier to find a design, viewing designs to transfer to memory card, I using PED Basic using usb stick I have to transfer design through documents and find folder the design is in and then send to usb stick

no folders and yes you can read the card and write to your computer the format is .psf (at least for mine). I am not sure if you can put this on USB or not.

I only put the design(s) I am going to stitch out on a small USB to transfer to my machine(s). I delete the design(s) when I finish stitching it out. I do not want to overload the computer in the machine

I put everything in folders, and itemized by designs, not by designers.***

Only Brother I have uses the old embroidery cards, but i have two other machines that have a USB port, a Viking Ruby and a Melco EP4. i can use folders in both and in the Ruby several levels of subfolders too. It is a 5 min job to try out, no high tech or rocket science involved.

As for your second question, i don't know, but I can read diskettes through an external reader connected to a USB port on my Ruby so I can use my (bought) diskettes and don't have to write the designs to a flash drive first. They don't advertise that, but I just gave it a try and it works.

I don't have a Brother either , but I do transfer a completed stitched design to a USB stick which I leave attached to my Bernina machine. I have many folders on it and I simply add new ones by plugging it into my computer and editing them. This is so handy to re stitch a design without reloading it to the machine again. I have been doing this 6 or 7 years now. Works great!! Kay

I don't have a brother, but I use the USB stick to transfer designs from my computer to Bernina machine. I have used the designs in a list and also in folders on the USB stick. According to how many designs that you will put on your USB stick would be the main reason for putting them in folders.

Hi Jan, I have a Quattro, and my designs had to be out of folders..in a list, prior to my machine's latest update and/or upgrades. Now, I can use folders and open them on the machine's computer screen. I can also use a usb cable to connect directly to the computer, but I have never tried that:>) Hugs,ro

I have always used the usb cable to directly load my design to the machine - lately I tried using a usb stick just to see how it worked and it took longer to do it that way. Give it a try.

mine are just loaded one by one and they show up like that .I delete them after i get 10 and start again .Weird but that's me hugs:):)

I do not think that is weird at all. I only load what I am going to use straight away and then delete from my USB as soon as I have stitched the design. I personally do not see the point of having masses of files on my machine in folders and sub-folders. I am a tidy freak!!! LOL.

I'm with you kido hugs

If you have the designs, folders or no folders, on a USB stick, the files do not get put into the memory of your machine unless you intentionally save them to the machine. They stay on the USB stick.
