What a wonderful story of friendship & love, as well as a shared hobby. I inherited Mom's quilting books and a large stash of material. Even though I have 4 sisters, only 1 of them sews.
Well, you know I told you,my recently retired ORN,needed a hobby and I got her into piecing quilts. She use to sew,but not as often as me.She just completed her first queen-sized quilt top and she is having it quilted. When she gets it back I will post it.I am so proud of her! She bought it and showed me when she finished, she said she wanted me to be the first to see it .It is a christmas quilt.I wish my girls would get into sewing. One works all the time and the other has other interest.
I wonder if we'll be ready to share when it's time to let go of our stashes? Glad you had that visit and were able to share your experiences with her.
She shared more with me.She is an expert in piecing.I probally wore her out asking about quilts, how to choose colors, etc.I told my husband it would be a comfort to me,if I had the chance like her,to choose who gets my things.I would choose someone I know has the love for it too.I am grateful her family respected her wishes and for her friendship.
She sounds like a lovely lady. I too have inherited fabric and embroidery cottons from a dear friend who passed away. Her daughter rang me just before Christmas, and asked if I wanted her Mum's threads and fabrics.
I think the families know how much it means to us and meant to her. They just don't want it 'thrown' away.
So glad you got to spend time with her! Sweet, sweet memories.
Yes, even tho visit had to be short,we always filled the time with talk of our favorite hobbies. She was a widow a long time, only got a small monthly income. She would tell me she saved her money for a new book or piece of fabric and got it the next check.
some great books Toggie I see you have one on using up scraps ,,that's one I need ,,,,lol I hope to see some new items in projects ,enjoy
I have had them a few months and I leave them out on the coffee table.I plan on reading them when Hubby watches TV but I end up in here, sewing room.
She sounds like such a sweet lady, bless her for sharing with you. I know it must comfort her to know her stash will not be wasted. True friends who understand each other can be very special.
Like minds, you know. Our boys were friends, first.Hers was born late in her life and mine was my first child. There is a thirty year difference in our age,but not in our love of sewing and each other.
Lovely story. Must be nice for her to know her "stash" is appreciated and used. Lynx
I think it is a comfort to her, accepting she isn't able anymore. She gave me that dresser full of fabric, when she first realized her hands wouldn't work anymore, to piece the blocks.Since then the daughter has brought fabric, notions, etc to me.Then her son sent all the books by my son, because she wanted to be sure I got them.
I think you both must be happy, you about all the fabrics and books and she because she knows, that all ther stash will be used.
What a lovely lady and friend to you...........................and another name to add to the Scissor and Stash Sisters..............
How wonderful for both of you. Kindred hearts are very special indeed.
What a special friendship you two have. She loves you to pieces to have entrusted her stash to you. I am so glad she could see what you have already made with her fabric. Your completed projects will be a moving testimony to her.
When I made something, like Avery's bibs or such,I would text her daughter a photo, so she could show her mom, that her fabrics were being used.
Wow, what a special lady and friend. God Bless her on the next phase of her journey and you too.
Thank you,I hope I will be able to choose who gets my 'hoard', when the time comes.
Why leave it? We should all take it to heaven and we can harass Mr. Dennis when he gets there! :<>)
