A friend brought me a bag with 5 fleece blankets. Her daughter wanted to have names on them and she had pinned the names on each one. The friend showed me the top one which mentioned the height of the letters. I could choose my own colours and she knew it would be fine.

So this morning I chose a font and started digitising them, 7 cm high and the width of the name fitting my 240x150 hoop. I knew it happened to be the longest name of her grands. It took a bit of adjusting to get the following names the same size, but I was pretty pleased. Until I came to the bottom of the bag. On the last one was not only the name but also the prefered font: Comic sans.
So I had to start over again.
Just one of those days...

I hope you can use the first ones on something else later on. That would help your feelings some. I put a design on a pillow case upside down one time. So sort of know how frustrating things can be at times when things go wrong. It still is better than hand stitching like we would have had to do 20 years ago. I am sure through it all you just got better at what you do:)

You are right about hand stitching, these large letters would have taken weeks! 20 years ago I was lucky enough to have a Brother Galaxy that had a 4x4 hoop and i embroidered all my teatowels with my initials MNR. By hand i had only done hankies and even if the letters were about 1/2" or so that took quite some time. now with biggers hoop we can do so much more in a relative short time. The 5 names in letters almost 3" high took only 2 hrs and 29 min stitching time.

Gosh, I hate wasting time like that. You were just plain lucky that you saw the font name before stitching it out! If it had been me, I probably would have to rip out stitches too.

I agree it could have been worse & you could have embroidered them so you did very well to catch them in time. Hugs Loralye

Time wasted but at least the blankets don't have to be replaced or stitches picked out. It was a blessing that you found that font in the nick of time. Maybe those names can be used for someone else at another time.

I saved the names, one of them is quite common. Jing Jing and Qi-jun are not. Maybe my friend will want them on a towel some day.

At least you found the font before you embroidered them. Have a "Happy Thanksgiving".

Sometimes I wish we could reboot the day, apply the updates, and have a fresh start -- just like one finds on a computer.

I had such great plans at being really organised and effective, and finish a lot of small tasks: the blankets, stewing 10 kgs of (cooking) pears I got, cooking for the freezer, going to collect a few feet for my sewing machine I had ordered, etc. I hate a spanner in the works, but it happens.

Mops i never freeze my pears or apples but bottle them instead, that way i do not have to thaw them out before use and i get more space in my freezer

mops by mops 28 Nov 2013

I do to, it was stew that went into the freezer. Still have a box full of quince that needs to be turned into something edible.

Oh my.Did I understand right, that you hadn't actually started the stitchout, but you had wasted plenty time designing the names? That's a lot of work and now to start over, poor you....Mops,I wanted you to look at my serger seams on Averys jacket.I am so pleased with the results and thank you again for the advice. It is in Sewing.

I am so glad I did not start on stitching them - most of the time I stitch the first while digitising the second.

I had a look at the jacket. The seams look quite professional. You did a nice job on them!

oh dear, yes we have those days sometimes, well good thing you didn't start embroidering already !! At least that's what I hope happened. If you had embroidered them already, the problem was worse. hugs, Gerry

Had you actually sewn them or just spent the time digitizing? As you say - just one of those days. Sarah.

No, I had not started stitching them, lucky me, that would have been a disaster

Luckily it was just the time spent digitising that annoyed me, I had not actually started stitching.
