Water soluble thread should be stored in a air tight bag as humidity can affect it. In dry climates it might dry out.

It can be used as top thread and also bobbin thread.

Been using YLI Wash-A-Way Water Soluble Basting Thread for years, works wonderful. Just Google for info on where to purchase because there are dozens of places. Got mine on Amazon. Available on a 100yd spool.

Try this link for the Lite Vanish Water soluble thread.
It is under Quilting thread and then choose the brand name Vanish.

Does the soluble thread stick to itself in humid weather? How do you store it? Do you use it in the bobbin?

I just tried doing this but the thread pulls it and it puckers the vilene. I tried everything I can think of to make it lye flat. what am I doing wrong?

Try using a long basting stitch or try a wide and long zig zag stitch.
If you look at the video her edgeds are not right flat down.
I think that if you embroider over it it would be fine.

great idea

I tried that, but the WS thread is very expensive and the spools are very small.

I use any means possible to save on stabilisers, I'm like Scrooge. Jan

I also sew together my scrap pieces of tear away. You might have to snip a thread here or there when reusing it but it is so budget friendly and we can all use some savings.

I put one finger in my mouth and soaked it, and then glue the leftover Vilene together, and it always succeeds very well for me.

Doesn't it wrinkle all up? If not, then I'll give that a shot myself.

sigrun by sigrun 26 Jun 2012

No, just be careful not to put too much of it :-))

you can stitch pieces of the Vilene together using Water Soluble thread and it will dissolve away when you rinse the water soluble stabilizer out of the design.

I have never heard of watersoluble thread. Who makes it and where can I get some from please

Also I've used a washable glue stick to glue small pieces of Vilene together. It work great...but you can't be to heavy handed with the amount of glue or it will kind of dissolve & wrinkle the Vilene, to little and it won't hold. You may have to practice a few times - but it does work.

Hm? I wonder if a glue stick would work?
