Generic hoops.

I have a Babylock Ellageo. I have seen hoops on Ebay for this machine that are Generic. They are much cheaper than name brand ones. Has anyone tried generic hoops on their machine? I so want to order some but I'm a bit scared too!

Don't know about Babylock, but can assure you Viking won't take generic. It's so computerized, it won't run if you don't have the correct size on...but you can chg the size if you need. I would sorta beware of using the hoop...unless you could get a small, cheap one & then be able to send it back if it didn't work.

Thanks, I'll have to check the fine print.

Most of the brothers and babylocks will use either DST or PES. The biggest difference is that DST will make the colors on the machine really funky (where alot of the time the PES is a sometimes, but not always, closer to "real").

As for the hoop - I don't have an answer - have not tried them. I know there is something in the hoops that talk to the machine because the machine knows what hoop is attached (at least in my quattro). I agree with bikermomfl - if reputable seller, good feedback, good return policy - and use a credit card (so you have that protection too) - it might be worth a try.

PS: I got a brother hoop from worldweidner.com (real brother, not generic) recently for much less than they wanted at my dealer. Might be worth a look there too.

If it's a reputable seller with good feedback and a return policy you can always try it. I know my ruffler foot is $100 but I got a generic on ebay for $25 and it works great. Looks exactly the same also.

Well, sorry I can't answer your question but since I have the same machine I would be interested to know too. Also, I have a question for you. I have been trying to download some designs and they won't download in pes format but they will in dst format, which my manual says my machine can use. I have never used this before and wondered if you have or if any else might know. Thanks

It's o.k. in DST all you have to do is change the colours. I do it frequently and to all other formats/designs as well. I choose my own colours. Love Chris

Thanks so much for everyone's help. I did download one of the designs in dst and it shows up on my machine. I have not tried to embroidery it out yet. I've had my machine for quite awhile but had never noticed that I could use dst. Live and learn as the saying goes. Feel better now that I know someone has used dst.

I too would like to know the answer to the st format. I also have the Ellageo P[us machine there is also another format that my book tells me that it will use. I have not tried it, I may have to call my Machine man and ask tomorrow and see what he says. Has anyone been on the baby lock site or called them and asked. Curious minds want to know. LOL

Sorry that should have been DST format. Typo.
