You're not gonna believe this but my surgical wound, or at least inside it, is infected!

Red, sore, hot and nasty and it's Sunday night here, so unless I want to go to the hospital and sit all night waiting for treatment, there is no other medical help available until the morning.

Luckily I had two days worth of antibiotics left so I have doubled the dosage to try and keep it from getting worse.
I always seem to get infections after surgery, I think my body has had so many antibiotics that it is immune to the small doses they give as standard practise. When I had my jaw infection it took 11 months of treatment & it was only when they upped the dosage to 1,000 mg, 4 times daily, that it finally cleared up.
Oh well if you don't hear from me tomorrow you'll know they dragged me, kicking, screaming and fighting, back into hospital.

Or maybe I'll just accept my fate and go quietly like the meek little lamb I am. hahahahahahahaha!!!
Good night all, hugs and love, Meganne

Happened to my niece after she gave birth;got infection, returned for treatment, they gave her new antibiotics which worked. Perhaps it's just a matter of time with new meds that will take effect.Glad to see you brought your sense of humour with you;that is definitely a plus. Wishing you better times ahead....

Perhaps, like me, you are allergic to the soluble stitches they use on the insides of wounds (layers further down than the skin that is heh) which is what caused the infection. Either way, I hope you went to the hospital and got it sorted. I wish you wellness :) xXx

HMMMMM! Now THAT'S something I hadn't thought of. With all my allergies it's quite possible because it happens with every surgery and I counted them up at 18.
I'm getting quite sick of them now. LOL!!!

18? oh my! Let's hope there are no more :) xXx

Please don't mess around with anything that is red, sore, or hot! I hope you have gotten the medical attention you need so you don't end up having to stay in the hospital. Infections are no fun. Sorry you have to deal with this, too. Speedy recovery, Meganne. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

well the longer you wait the worse it will get! I'd say it's not worth it to wait till MOnday, If you have to wait @ the hospital then you should! When I had issues we were given a private number to the surgeons & they called us back within 5 minutes or sooner. Maybe you could call your dr's & if he has a service they will call him & he can tell you what to do?

I have called my doctor several times over the weekends and on most occasions has ordered medications right to the pharmacy for me. A surgical incision may need to be looked at though. Hope your doctor can see you early Monday morning.

Oh Meg I do so wish I could be there as your nurse. This of course is not good. Like you I do everything I can to stay away from the Dr. but think given your background you probably need to contact him. You are in my prayers and if you start having increased Temp, contact you Dr. don't want you getting septic./Love you and praying and will have church praying this morning/Lillian

Meg get some normal saline (boiled water and salt) on those wounds and dry them well. Try not to relly on Antibiotics, they do become impotent after a while.

Bathed it with Phisohex then dried it with my hair dryer and put a fresh dressing on it. My resistance is so low it takes ages for me to heal, just worried about septicaemia. Doctor will fix me up! :-)

It sounds to me that you can not ring a doctor to come out, that surely would be the easiest answer.
I am not medical inclined at all and find it worrying to leave something like that. But agree that the doubling of dose if that is 1000 mg in total makes sense for now.
Wish you well. Go to the hospital if you feel the need. Hugs edith

by grafiau 19 Feb 2012

Mganne, most GP services run a locum service, which will get you medical treatment tonight, the only problem would be is if they carry antibugs with them as I guess you may not have any all night chemist near you. Sweetie I know you dont want to wait in the public system all night but it might be best, you know these infections need to be nipped in the bud as soon as they appear, especially as you are probably a little run down with all you have gone through, and in the hospital they can give you intravenous antibiotics which will work faster, think about it, but either way treat the infection quickly.
Hugs Ruth

always try peroxide. that will kill the infection. that has helped us many a time to not go to the emergency room late at night. When you pour it on there it boils out the infection.Works for me! Roberta
