Well, my iron level is very low and unless we get it up they will hold off on chemo so tomorrow I have to have, they told me, a blood transfusion but we are thinking they may really be doing an iron infusion. I have to go to the hospital at 8 a.m....I am not a morning person...and it takes 5-6 hours to do so there goes a perfectly good rainy Saturday, lol! I guess the range of iron for a woman should be 8.9-26.8 and on Wednesday mine was 7.5, they sent me home and told me to take iron pills and eat red meat so I had sloppy joes the first night and a steak the second and today my iron had dropped to 7.3 so only getting worse. I don't want to lengthen the time of chemo so we have to do this even though I really don't want to. I'll post on this thread how I feel tomorrow night. I hated to complain but I do really feel tired and run down. Hugs for all the prayers and good thoughts I know will be going out for me! Debra

Hey Debra, I envy you eating sloppy joes and steak, I'll trade you some of my steamed fish and chicken. LOL!!!
So glad to see your iron level sneak back up but that asthma sounds like it really needs watching.
Do take care girlfriend, you have been in my prayers.
Hugs and blessings, Meganne

Deb, my prayers are with you. Cheemo does depelete the iron in your system. A blood transfusion will help and I hope they give you a prescription for Liquid Iron medication. My husband had the same problem and the liquid Iron worked faster than the pills. Your system absorbs it faster.
Hope you are feeling better soon. Many hugs,
Joyce

Great news on the IRON, Debra! Yeah! Asthma is tough! Did you ever try adding an antacid to all your meds? For some reason, that helps with all the mucous. I had bad asthma for three months last year and that finally helped me kick it. Love you, and hope you are breathing better soon!

Hey Deb, was just thinking about you and thought I'd check in. I remembered something else that has lots of iron.... Collard greens, turnip greens or spinach... I LOVE collards with vinegar and turnips too, but I don't care for cooked spinach, however I will eat it raw with a salad. Have you tried any of these? If you have a Crackle Barrel near by, you can get the greens from there. They use a great seasoning. :)
I do hope you are feeling better. Hugs, T

I used to eat raw spinach before they closed down our local buffet and I am not a big salad eater so I won't be eating those. Taking my iron pill, Cheerios has 50% of your daily needed iron and I eat that every morning, added raisins.

keeponsewing by keeponsewing 01 Feb 2012

I didn't realize Cheerios had that much iron. In that case just eat the whole box...no not the box that would be fiber, but the Cheerios. hehehe....Praying the Lord will ease your pain and keep you strong. Stay positive, but lean on the Lord to renew your strength. Love you. T
