pourquoi vouloir un anglais parfait,ce site n'est pas un cours de langue, mais de broderie
si le site tel qu'il est conçu ne vous plait pas, allez sur un autre ou vous pourrez ne parler qu'en bon anglais
Je suis d'accord. Nous sommes ici pour la broderie, et ça quelle que soit la langue est, nous pouvons toujours le traduire.
I used Google translate to say:
I agree. We are here for embroidery, and does it matter what the language is, we can always translate it.
"We are all from different countries, language groups etc., but everyone does their level best to communicate in English"
I think that this is the important part of Terri's message and, yes, I do agree with her. I also find it inappropriate in this website. But at least it is on the personal page :-)
You can always use Google Translater, like I just did for a joke post in Community.
But I agree, they should be using Private email or Private Message for such discussions.
Shall I go and translate for you?
Meganne the funny fact is that english is the most used language in Southafrica and I'm pretty sure that they all of that group can speak it better than me. That's what upsets me so much. Like you said: If they wanna speak africaans they could write mails/PMs or phone with each other...
mail or phone each other.
If I answer a german post (some of them have trouble with english :o) I always try to comment in both languages just to lock nobody out...
Greetings, Bettina
Not a problem with me! I think it's wonderful, we are constantly learning from each other! Hugs, Lidia
I use google translate and it does well i only had one time it didn't work .So go ahead it is easy for you that way hugs carolyn
It's very appropriate to use any language on this site, after all it is a world wide web site and not everyone speaks English. If we want to know what someone is saying in another language, we can always translate it as I'm sure they have to do to use this site.
Don't have a problem, I love to see how some are written, I think it beautiful, even if I can't understand it.
I dont have a problem with another language, Remember that the site owner is not of Mother Tongue speaking english. Yet look what she gives us. If you cannot understand skip over the post, BUT dont forget to give a flower anyways, Pauline :)
If you can't understand the language you are always welcome to use a translator on the net. There are a few. I use Bable Fish and through this I answer them in their language. Although I am not sure Afrikaans is there.
I'm jealous because I'm not bi-lingual. I really would love to be able to speak another language well. When I don't understand I just go to the next topic. It really does not bother me.
This is a site that is enjoyed world wide. Some do not know the English language. Personally, I've posted IN ENGLISH, comments on sites that are non-English speaking because I do not know the language. Google Translate works great to translate the basic information of languages. Some do not translate as well as others.
I don't have a problem with it at all. It WAS in personals, so it was meant as a communication with other Afrikaan speakers. There are local sayings that don't translate well. My daughter-in-law is Spanish and says "I will give him the airplane." Would you translate that into "I will ignore him?" I never would have. This site is for speakers and natives of all countries. Please don't be upset over something like this. Hugs! ;)
I agree with you, I feel it should be like it is, all persons welcome. Hugs, Judy
well most of the time it's nicer to do in English, but sometimes it's easier to explain or tell someone something in his/hers own language.
Don't have a problem with it. i speak some languages, one better then the other one. Always nice to learn something. And I do have to say that if sometimes someone explains me a sewing problem in my mother language (which is Flemish - very simular to the people of th Netherlands) I do understand it much better.
I don't have a problem with any language someone chooses to use. I just pass it by, and trust that someone else who knows the language will offer the appropriate reply.
My suggestion is to stop this topic now. Just now there is a fall out between the Cuties and that we dont want to happen. Lets enjoy the good work that Veronica started. After all it is here site and lets honour her idea with this site.
I agree with you! Stop this topic. I am so pleased to see Cuties from all the world and hear from them.
Marthie i was not quick enough with the button . I 2nd your or 3rd you advice :)
I do appreciate all those that do not have English as their native langage using it. Can always understand what they are saying, no matter how badly THEY think they are doing! Sadly, I only speak English. Took 4 yrs of Spanish in school & couldn't talk my way out of a paper bag if I had to!! But that was MANY yrs ago!! I just skip over the posts in another language..no problem. But I really do appreciate instructions being translated for us..thanks, Bettina, for the key thing translation!
Thank you Gerry :o) I'm often surprised how much of my french is still in some parts of my brain after 30 years (and I have to admit that I hated french sorry).
The latin I have eliminated successful ;o)
Greetings, Bettina
I enjoy the flavor of the international, even if I don't understand what has been typed.
Of course, that limits the possible responses... but, perhaps she is asking something specific to her area.
I don't see a problem.
I agree with you. I'm not a native-speaker but this page is the best training for my english skills. If I could not read/ understand a language then I'm searching a forum where I understand what's up there.
In Germany we have a big community called "Die Hobbyschneiderin" (the hobby-tailoress). This is a wonderful page with a lot of information and also many members. I for myself prefer CUTE cause it is so wonderful that we have members from all over the world that communicate with each other and it is somebody here no matter which time it is :o)
Greetings, Bettina
Bettina, I think it is wonderful that you can enjoy this site and use it as a learning tool in English as well. Good for you!
I also appreciate when you translate you us. I hav tried google and it is marginal because of reasons stated inthis post. Thank you
Dont see a problem with it. Sometimes good to discover something new like translate with Bling(Google)A lady from Australia sent me a message in Afrikaans and I was very surprised. When I asked her she said she is very clever, only to find out she is using the translater!!This is the first "complaint" as far as I know. We are all friends and sometimes it feels like family
I personally don't have a problem with it. If I feel I just have to know what they are asking, I highlight and do a google translate. Hugs..Carol
I think it's okay, if that is the language they know. Of course, it's nicer if it is in the predominate language of the site, but some people, like I, only speak one language. I love it when others translate for us :-). I kind of feel like I do when people are whispering - left out, and wondering if they are talking about me - he he. I look at the words and see if I can figure out what the general idea of the message is. I wish I could speak and write lots of languages. I know a tiny bit of Spanish. hugs, and understanding Jan
This was not to affend anybody. It was just a question that the lady ask for all the cuties here in South Africa. Hugs Marie
Sorry to disagree but there were a few posts and they are all from the same person. It's sad when something so wonderful like we here on cute become disharmonic once...
