These photos are of a cycad that we grew from seedling .It has taken over 25yrs to get to this size .

Seed pod of 2nd photo is 1.1metres from the bottom to the tip
3rd photo is a closeup of all the brown seeds on each segment

Oh Gosh.... you've grown a dinosaur.
It looks like a prehistoric pine cone.

This is fascinating. I would LOVE to live in a climate warm enough to grow these!! Looks somewhat similar to our pine cones. Thank you for sharing!!

Wow - that is some seed pod. I also have a cycad growing in a pot. We were away for 3 weeks over Christmas and my neighbour was so busy watering my roses that she did not water my cycad so at the moment it is looking a bit sad and sorry for itself.

It should recover & grow new fronds,ours have all suffered from sun & wind burn over the yrs .Just cut off the old fronds after the new ones grow & it will look like new next Xmas

About Xmas time it either produces new fronds or a seed pod .If new fronds come we often have to cover them up ,whiles they are small &soft ,to protect them from the heat or summer hail storms

most unusual!!The plants that I planted in 1993 are all over grown now and I need for someone to pull them up and start all over. I should have had this plant.
