I have a cat that likes to chew power cords. She's chewed the cord on the iron, the vacuum cleaner, the lamp cords, and my Bernina power cord and foot control cord. She gnaw on anything accessible. She's a rotten scrap of fur!

Thank goodness I dont have this problem with my cats. There seem to be lots of ways for you to try out to stop the problem. And your cat seems to be working her way through her 9 lives. I keep the sewing room door firmly shut when not working and keep the cats out when the embroidery machine is in action

Oh Lee, I can so relate.
My favourite baby acts out whenever I leave the house for any length of time.
It started when I spent 9 weeks total in hospital and he now has separation anxiety.
He's already ruined two lounge chairs that we had to throw out. But that started a little before the hospital trips when Ray's Mum moved in with us because she is incontinent and I didn't realise she was leaking on the lounge chairs when she sat in them. So first one chair, then the second chair had to be thrown out.
Luckily I decided to cover my good leather lounges with plastic sheeting, with old blankets or bedspreads on top of that, because after my hospital trips he started peeing on them.

I got so sick of constantly washing the blankets, that we eventually put large flat sheets of pine-board timber on both the lounges so he couldn't get up on them any more.
I know he doesn't understand it's wrong, he just does it when I'm missing for any length of time.
He seems to have settled down now because I haven't been to hospital since March, but I'm not taking any chances, the timber sheets are on the lounges to stay because I can't bear to think of the alternative.

He loves me so much, he never leaves my side for more than 1/2 hour without he comes looking for me, bellowing at the top of his lungs.
He sleeps curled up in the crook of my knees and if I stand still he lays on my feet. He talks to me, calls out to me to play hide and seek, or chasings, or when he wants to play rough house with my hands. All his meows are different depending on what he wants, he even has one to 'tattle tale' on the other cat when he wants to get him into trouble for attacking him.

Yes, cats are truly wonderful creatures.
AAAAAAAARGGHHH!!!!!

What a beautiful cat! He loves his Mommy, too. My cats miss me when I'm gone, but that's because I feed them and understand what they want better than my husband does.

Try spraying your cords with citronella oil, or a mixture of vinegar and water or try wrapping your cords with foil, which is horrible to chew on.
Hugs n roses, Meganne

Oh man, I feel for you! I always check the pee for blood, had a cat back in the 70s that had a kidney infection. Mine is just mean cause she wants to be a one cat household!

I have a cat that gets bladder infections and pees in a prominet place so I know they need the vets. At the last visit to the vet last week he said that one aught to have as many litter trays in the house and one extra. With four cats I think I would be falling over the things. As I am reading the one who has the infections is at my side purring away. Sadly he has a cold and keeps sneezing... Cats sometimes spray inside when they are trying to be the top cat and are marking their territory

Wishful thinking won't do it; my niece had the same problem.she left the cat with her mom while away & the cat decided to chew every computer wire she could... I guess she thinks they're yummy. Some of the suggestions below seem like they could work- worth a try; otherwise you'll have to grin and bear it.

My cat has chewed on any cords as of yet and hope he doesn't. But when he is doing something I spray him with a fine mist of water. also in my sewing and computer room I have a can of air and all I have to do is pick it up and he runs. I sprayed at him with it a time or two and now he knows to stop it. all we do now is pick up the water bottle or spray can and he stops whatever he is into very quickly. Hope he stops. Get him a rat toy with catnip on it and give him maybe that will help. Sara

there is some spray you can get at the pet store to spray areas where you want to keep the cat away. it really works too.

try to put pepper on the place she can bite, for the rest place it in a bigger tube along the site so she can"t get ir. In a while when she is older probebly doesn't do it anymore, Yvonne

To discourage my kitty from bad habits, I sometimes squirt her with a little water from a squirt bottle. It works. Chewing electrical cords could hurt your cat, so I hope you can help her break the habit.

Boy can I relate my pretty little isis used to pee for spite! She disliked 2 of my cats. Unfortuantelty for me and fortunately for her I've lost both the boys she didn't like. She still has thing for plastic bags tho so I try to keep them off the floor. The best bet is to place your cords inside those small flexible hoses from the home depot etc then add a moth ball to the area. Usually a moth ball will make them keep their distance. Good luck and just remember you'll miss her when she's gone so love her now - pee and all. Big giant hug from somebody with the same problem....

I know, she was just on my lap pushing her head up against my chest (head bumping is how they say "you are part of my family"), then she wanted out on the porch. One minute I want to strangle her and the next love on her.

I'd put the cords through a piece of old garden hose cut to length, cut it down the side to put the cords inside, you can then cover it with fabric if you'd like.

Bind the cords using Fabric Scraps.KittyCats might not chew through fabric,And your cords will still be flexable and look pretty.

Wonder if the reason's the same for squirrels & cats? Squirrels chewed thru the battery cable on our van TWICE! Then a friend retired from electric company said they had that problem a lot, for some reason the squirrels liked the taste I guess! I'd try some or all of the suggestions below as to coating the cords with something. We got a rodent repellant spray we used around the van, but you can't do that in the house!! If she keeps that up, she may become a FRIED piece of fur, which is awful!

No, here is what mine does, she has taken to peeing on bags she finds and sometime today she peed on the zippered bags under my desk that contained my stabilizer! Luckily the WSS bag was tight but the stitch and tear bag must have had a pin hole in the center so she ruined a large spot in the center of the folded stuff and I can only use some of the scraps of it on practice pieces to make sure they stitch out well. Yelled at her but she doesn't know why! She is 11 with a bad heart but she is acting out cause she doesn't like my son's cat that has lived here for over 4 years now, GET OVER IT!!! I could scream, trip to Joann's tomorrow!

When my fluffy baby started that she had a bladder and kidney infection. MAYBE you baby needs to see the vet????
mine had very little kidney function and we had to put her to sleep

leenova54 by leenova54 26 Jul 2010

She's been to the vet, she started doing this about a year ago.

Sorry for your KittyCat.Try to keep small trays of Cat Litter closer to the places she likes to snuggle, when older, the distance to her normal toilet place could be just too far.
From Bev

leenova54 by leenova54 26 Jul 2010

No, she still gets around just fine, she is just being spiteful because she doesn't like the other cat. She uses her litter box a lot. Even the vet says she does it for attention.

nhsmith55 by nhsmith55 26 Jul 2010

Cats get attitudes!!!!! Our's would pee on my husbands pants. Not mine, just his. We loved him, but called him Evil Kitty behind is back.

That's funny, mine has several names that can't be put in print here, lol!

If she chews it when it is plugged in she could get electrocuted. I had a rabbit that got behind my stove and suddenly we saw a flash of light and a crackle..The bunny chewed into the electric cord. He was fine but his whiskers were all singed. I don't know how he survived it. I looked up 'Stop cats from chewing on electric cords' on the Internet and there are a lot of sites with suggestions that might work. One said to rub the cords with a bar of soap...dampen the soap first and then rub it on the cords. Maybe you could find something that works. Good Luck!

run your cord thru a larger piece of plastic hose she won't be able to get to the cord. good luck

YES! I do not for the life of me know why cats love to chew on wires! You can try coating your most precious wires with tabasco sauce as a deterrant.
