Remember when I made the foil credit card holders. I have just heard that thieves all over the world have a new scheme. They work in pairs with a device. They watch your car, and when you walk away, one follows. The device nearest you signals the device near your car and they gain access to your car and possible it's ignition. I would like to make a cover or large block keychain to cover the chip in the key. The article said to cover your keys in aluminum foil. I wonder if that metallic hot/cold stuff would do better than a thick mylar. I never did find a device to test my credit card carrier. I guess only the thieves have them. Lol!

If it is ok with the moderators, I may be able to PM you the article with comment from a former FBI agent.

I don't know how you'd lock/open the car with foil around it. I must be missing something here. I don't have one of those cars yet. A few bad people can really make life difficult for the rest of us. Perhaps the car companies would make a cover the the keys that easily slided to to the side when you need to use it...I'm thinking those metal tins that were popular. Right now I have a key pad on my car's door that opens it so I don't need a fob.

I do not know the combo for my car. I would be lost with out a key. Some cars come with a fancy leather covers and those cars I think are the targets. The key cover does not protect against thieves, still it looks too hard for me to think about.

I agree Penny. Don't know how foil around the fob would work. Actually emails about this very thing have been circulating since 2008 according to Snopes. Their rating is a mixture of True/False:https://www.snopes.com/fact-check...

My theory is that if it was a real risk your car would come with some sort of protection to prevent it.

I have often wondered if a tote/purse lined with the metallic fabric would work. I have used foil to cover cards for years.

I love this idea, as long as it does make crunchy sounds when it moves.
