Do you pull up your threads at the beginning? Like pulling the bobbin thread up to the top and let the machine go a few stitches then trim both of the threads.

I do when I'm free motion quilting. I will hold the top thread for fsl, and some other designs if I don't want a messy spot on back. I have a Babylock Ellegante, and have also turned off the automatic thread cutter and let it go from spot to spot , then clip the extra thread. Makes for a much nicer back.

I only pull up the bobbin thread when I insert a new bobbin. My machine stops after 5 stitches for me to cut the top thread

I didn't say what I do. I mostly do fsl, so I always pull it up for that. And on other things I do too because habit and not having any tails to get sewn over on the bottom. Not sure how big of a concern that really is. One time, I'd pushed the stop button too early and the machine had only done the tie and like two more stitches, but I didn't want to restart and stop again, so I decided to clip the tails right then and unsurprisingly accidentally cut the needle thread too. So by saving like 3 seconds I went on to waste a lot longer

I trim the top thread after a few stitches on my Brother ULT2003D but on my new DreamWeaver I don't have to do anything, it automatically makes the top and bottom threads the right length and pulls them to bottom of the fabric.

Generally, I only pull up the bobbin thread when I am working on a quilt and I do not want any knots or tie offs on the back...I will do this on an project that is stitched through and where you can see the back. I pull up the bobbin thread and when the stitching is a bit away, I will tie it off with a slip knot and bury it back into the quilt layers....

I cut off the top thread every time and i do the back by hand when done ***I shut off the trim or cut thread as it was jamming my machines hugs

No but I do trim the top thread if its present after a few stitches. A I set my machine up the bottom thread is cut to a specific length automatically so it doesn't get in the way. I know someone who doesn't do this and then has a difficult time removing the threads which got stitched all over the place

I don't do this. But it will be interesting to see what others say
