Hi Cuties

Does anyone know how to delete an empty folder that just doesn't want to delete?
I have tried and tried, but it just won't go away.
Hugs
This is what shows up when I right click on the folder.
THANK YOU Everyone for trying to help. I will see if my SIL can fix it, next time they come for a visit.
I appreciate everyone trying to solve this.
Hugs and again a Big Thank you...

Since you downloaded "Unlocker", if it is installed, then all you have to do is right-click on the folder you want to delete and then choose Unlocker from the dropdown menu. (If you don't see "Unlocker" in the menu then it is not installed.) When you click on Unlocker, another window will pop up. Click "Yes" to confirm that you want to use this program. In the next window, click the down arrow at the bottom left and choose "delete". That's all you have to do. I've used this many times and it never fails.

Thank you, I will show this to my SIL when I see him and let him do it for me.
I appreciate your help.

My suggestion to try would be.... to create a file or save a second copy of a design and then try to add it to that folder, if you can add it, then go back and right click on the folder and choose to delete it.

I too have 2 single files- not in folders that did this, so I will try the advice, that I know how to follow or like you, save the recommendations and wait until a more knowledgeable computer person can try the advice that has been given.

I hope one of the ideas suggested will eventually work for you once your son in law is able to give them a try. Pam

I run Windows 10 and have had my computer tech spend hours trying to delete a few of these files with no success. I have decided I just need to live with it. Know that won't fix your problem but hope it helps to know you're not on your own. If I find a solution I will let you know.

Wow! So much good advice and none of it works? I sympathize and hope it doesn't happen to me. Best wishes for a solution soon.

I am sure they all work, I am just nervous about trying things and downloading stuff. I have done it in the past and have gotten into major problems. I don't understand the tech words to know what they mean. My SIL is a techy guy, I will show him all the suggestions. He knows what to click on and understand the wording. I will see him by the end of the month, so if nothing else, it will wait until then.

Try to right click on it and rename it and then see if you can delete it.

Jerri, is this the same folder you had a long time ago or a new one?
In either case -- I wonder who has placed it there and/or has taken the permissions from you to remove it.
I am working from my phone now...so I hope zoefzoef can help you. I would not download any more software though -- some of the programs can be worse than a virus!

Hi Rescuer:
No this is a new one. I will see what Zoefzoef says and give it a try. Thank you.

Good luck with this. I had this problem on my XP laptop. When I finally retired it, those files were still there, absolutely nothing I tried would get rid of them. Strangely enough they were from one embroidery site only. I finally thought it had to be something programed into the file.
Now they usually disappear when I reboot.
I will follow this to see what happens.

Thank you. I did have this happen once before and somehow it finally went away. Maybe this one will too at some point.

Some times when I delete something it just does not disappear from thre list and get your message when I try again. Clicking renew solves the problem.

What kind of operation system version are you using ? Windows 7,8 10 ?
I will try to make some screenshots when I return this evening from work. Could be that the security on the folder is messed up.

Happens to me a good bit in my version of Windows. In your list of files along the left edge, do you have something called Quick Access, near the top of the list? Try removing the folder from Quick Access and see if it will then let you close. Basically, you opened it one place to unzip but Windows opened it additionally in a second location.

Thank you, but the folder is on one of my external hard drives, not on my computer

I use a free program called Unlocker. And...sometimes I've deleted the folder, but I still see it and when I try to delete it again, I get the message you posted above. Unlocker will take care of it.

Thank you. I am not sure if I downloaded this properly. It seems to have installed but I don't know what to do next.

jerrib by jerrib 09 Oct 2016

The folder is located in one of my external harddrives and I can't seem to find it in the list shown.

gjemptynester by gjemptynester 10 Oct 2016

If it is installed, then just right-click on the folder and choose unlocker from the drop-down menu.

Thank you, I hope someone has a simple solution. Not knowing much about computers, I am afraid to start playing with stuff I don't know anything about.

This has happened to me and I suspected Designer Gallery. One could see the folder and I was even able to move the files out of it, but never was able to delete it, because it would say the folder does not exist. I had one of my computer friends try to remove them (I had a few) through DOS to no avail. I finally found a program that does remove them. It will have a trial version and after that you can purchase it. I gave you a link to a reputable website where you can download it from. Let me know if that worked. Good luck

Thank you Crafter. There is so much stuff there that I don't know what to do, so don't want to take a chance and do more damage to my computer. I do appreciate your help, but I am not a computer person, so best I just learn to live with it.

I had a "New Folder" with nothing in it. Asked my daughter how to delete it. She went to the "New Folder" (not in it), then right click, now there's a drop-down menu so you can choose "delete". It should be gone.

I have had designs do that to me. Saying I need permission to delete. After trying a few times with no success I have shut down that section then gone back in a could delete. One time I had to restart the computer as it was saying the file was in use and could not be deleted.
Maybe try shut down and delete see if it works.
