Does anyone make Fidget Quilts for dementia sufferers? How big should they be?

I watched an episode on Sewing With Nancy and she had a guest that makes all kinds and says it is even good when a person visits as they don't know what to say to start with and this gets them communicating.
Can't remember when it was but not long a

I have never heard of fidget quilts--what a wonderful idea!

Something else that I have made for people with brain injuries--I Spy bags. I've made many of them for children, but when a good friend had a brain bleed, I made one for him. I found buttons and beads and tiny toys that represented things important to him. I filled the bag with less plastic beads than I usually do for children, as his hands were really stiff. He would search for certain things, and the nurses would ask him questions about the objects. It was lots of therapy in one bag.

The quilt guild I attend was asked to make them for a local facility and the facility requested that the size be no larger than 18x24. Catching in wheelchairs was a real concern. I suggest that you contact the receiver's facility and ask.

I would think any thing up to wheelchair size would be perfect

I don't think the size really matters. A larger one is nice in the winter to help keep the person warm. I think it's wonderful that you are doing this.

Quilters Club of America give a "suggested size" of 20x23, so anything in that neighborhood should work.

From what I read one lady is making them 18x24. What a great idea. I had not heard of Fidget Quilts.

Oops - the one I'm working on is bigger than that!

I don't think it would matter.

An apron style is a good idea as the smaller pieces fall off the persons lap. No need for a tie round the waist.....Ann
