This is so cute but yes, dogs do not like to put things on they are not used to. I would never have gotten one on my beloved beagle when he was alive. Still, a cute project.
He looks so cute but I understand he may not be used to wearing clothes so it bothers him. You may want it to be a bit looser so his under fur can do its job and he does not get to hot. Why does he need a night coat, if you don't mind my asking?
I live in South Africa. In winter our nights are cold - even have frost. Our houses have no central heating so it is chilly. Keenu sleeps in a padded basket with extra blankets next to our bed. I just thought a coat would keep him warm.
OMG, you and the little guy must be freezing at night, frost is way past chilly for me. I understand why he needs a coat to sleep in. I hope he gets used to wearing one. I'm surprised he doesn't get under the covers in bed with you. My cats do in the winter and we are not that cold.
Looks great, Sarah...I might have used some Kam Snaps to close instead of making a slip over....just thinking out loud...
It looks great, but I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall while you were fitting it!
It is great but he hates it. He had it on for only a while, would not even accept a favorite treat while wearing it. Soon as I took it off tail was up again and treat eaten!!
OMG, Sarah, Keenu is so adorable and yes, he is pouting....Your coat is terrific, is it just that he is not used to having it on or is it the fit of it........this first link is a coat even I could make.....LOL...the last one has a video at the bottom of the page showing how to convert old jackets into dog coats, check out the pick of the dog in the hoodie....got to be my favorite....
Thank you Vicki. They always make things look so easy on video. Keenu is exceptionally large in the body and the pattern I used was for a spaniel and I still think it could have been a bit bigger. I think I am going to make another one without the lining. It will make it much easier to get it on an off. Thank you for the web sites.
I've just re-read the instructions for making your own pattern and noted the 'IMPORTANT NOTICE' where it says in bold type............."It is preferable to temporarily attach the paper pattern using tape or similar...........................DO NOT USE PINS!"
There's some very helpful links and other suggestions amongst these replies. You can always rely on the Cutiebles to come up trumps when a fellow Cutie is in need.
I made my own pattern and was pleasantly surprised how well it fit.

several patterns for dogs at this site..I have made the vest and it was great.
You could also search on Pinterest.com you should find something there!! Good Luck
Flowers for your kindness. I will spend the afternoon looking up the sites you have suggested. Thank you all.
Oh I want to see a pic with him modeling after you get it done/Lillian
Lillian, I am just so hopeless making anything without a pattern. If I have a pattern I can sew anything. I will take a picture when I am finished. Just hope the winter isn't over by then. LOL
I draped a piece of paper over the dog (it was a very placid Westie) and cut the shape until I was happy with it. Then I cut two pieces of fleece and joined them together (face to face) leaving a gap for turning. Turned through and added some Velcro in strategic places. End product looked very cute because I used a tartan fleece. I'll look to see if I can find a picture.
I tried draping a piece of calico to make a pattern. Keenu just rolled on his side wanting a tummy tickle. So much for that idea!!!
Here is one from joann.com 3 sizes. Also I am sending you a PM. Suzanna
Lots to choose from with Gerry's suggestions.. Hope you find something you like.
Sarah, maybe you may find something at sewingitupfromallfreeesewing, ////// allfreesewing.com /////// allsewcrafty . Hope this helps you in some way, if you just type any of these in your search engine, there may be others also appear. Good luck. Sandra.
