Hi cuties I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong place my Brother inovis 750E is shredding thread before I have hardly started sewing when it does sew it is OK which is 2 out of 10 times I have checked most reasons why this could happen with out luck I have just got it back from being repaired and looking at the tension it is on 0.0 is this the correct tension? I was wondering if it was tension causing the problem before I take it back to be looked at again. I have had it back a few weeks but only just started using it again last time I used the machine was before Xmas when it jammed up due to metallic thread and have read about thread drying out don't think that is the cause as I have tried with various reels that are mostly Brothers own make or Gutermann and had no problems with have done the usual changing needle etc

any advise would be helpful thanking you in advance

That tension setting doesn't seem right, but I don't own a Brother so it might be what the tension on a Brother is suppose to be. Look in the owner's manual and see what they suggest for tension setting, or call the dealer and ask what the normal setting is. The tension setting for embroidering is different than for regular sewing. I'd try some straignt stitching on scrap fabric to see if the tension is ok for that

I assume you changed the needle as soon as it happened. I bought some new needles that I had never used before and I got instant shredding and I took it out and went back to my Organ needles and everything was fine. Kay

I had a similar problem when I changed thread brands. Found the machine just wanted me to 'hold' its hand while it stitched. :-)
Done that for quite a few designs, now it goes along nicely without doing terrible things to my threads.
PS it was serviced and checked over before I changed thread brands. Just mucked up a little when I bought it home till; I was ready to ditch the new threads. Then I remembered what I saw in a shop before I bought my machine - some threads are temperamental and you need to search for the right placement on the sewing table for them to behave.
Found the 'right' spot and they work beautifully.

If it just got repaired and wasn't doing that before you had it repaired, perhaps it was damaged at the shop. I can't imagine that you just started having this problem when you got the machine back. If you can't solve the problem on your own, I'd take it back to the shop.

Hi Penny my machine got jammed so I'm thinking it was done then, the chap unjammed it and removed thread and fluff and gave it a look over while I was there and he told me it should work OK now, may be if he had tried it with actually sewing a small design he may have noticed I think the thread with the friction has made a deeper groove so making the thread shred and break I'm hoping with a new rotary hook which should arrive today it should solve the problem fingers crossed at least if that is what is wrong I have saved the money from taking it back for him to look at and fitting a new one they sure seem to be temperamental from now on after finishing each design I will give it a look over for loose thread and fluff

Just had a look at needle plate and rotary hook through magnifying glass should have done it before will in future and found a little nick in the rotary hook so making a guess that is causing my thread to shred and not sewing have ordered a new one after hunting for the best price hope I am aloud to mention them Lords Sew & Knit center UK
A VERY GOOD PRICE for all their items
HOPING THIS SOLVES MY PROBLEM should arrive tomorrow will let you know if I am up and sewing again
Thankyou for all those who answered my post xxxx Chris

Try taking a very, very fine sand paper and smoothing the nick away. I've done it before on commercial binding machines.

I have also done this with great success...I saw my dealer do it with a piece of Emory cloth and he said you have nothing to lose...if it doesn't work you will need the new part anyway...so I say go for it...I have done this on the hook and also the throat plate with excellent results...

I took my nicked throat plate to a local jewelry store that repairs jewelry and he smoothed it out for me (and didn't charge me anything!)

Will give it a go as you say I have nothing to loose

When the thread breaks, sometimes this happens if your thread is a little on the old side and a friend of mine suggested putting it in the fridge first, give that a try, hope it works for you. Hugs Maureen

On my Brother I took the top off. Inside where the arm lifts the thread up & down, there was a tiny dust bunny. Removed the dust & it purrs, now!
Also, the bobbin case cover gets removed and cleaned frequently because of lint buildup.

I had that problem for the longest! So frustrating! I have a Brother PE770. I changed everything so I'm not sure what it was that finally worked but it does work now. I bought a thread stand, I changed to Madeira thread and I bought organ needles.

I also have a thread stand and use threads recommended by Brother

I had a similar problem before. I had broken a needle that caused a rough place on the throat plate that I couldn't see. Found the roughness by 'sewing' with no material and I could see where the thread was catching. Hope this helps.
