What stops you from posting in Projects?

(I hope I can do this post without a firestorm...)

I have been looking for ideas for my own summer challenge. I have looked for ideas here on Cute in Projects. I click on users names and see some Cuties have been here for years and made many comments but never posted a single Project.
What I am wondering...
If you are a Cutie that has never posted a Project (and you participate here) why don't you post your work in Projects? I know most Cuties are very generous with praise -- so I would hope it is not because of fear (though I know in the past that has happened).

So I am asking, "What stops you from posting your own work in Projects?"

I am new to Cuties and can answer some of this question. And, I am very glad you asked it. First, I never knew how to post the pic. I have copied the iPad directions and will try that. The new stuff is beautiful and my work may not be as nice or my designs as new and that does not bother me at all. When I make something, I just want the person it is for to like it. I agree that busy is part of my problem but summer vacation is almost here. I always look at the projects for inspiration and sometimes to drool over the fantastic work I see. Hopefully I will post something over summer. My towels are finished. Again, thanks for asking the question. Hugs to all.

What an insight your post has been for me. I thank you rescuer for this. I for one forget that others are perhaps ill or caring for sick loved ones. Many Cuties are working or looking after small children or grandchildren. This has made me feel so terribly selfish. I feel so very lucky to have just turned 70 and be in good health - apart from painful arthritis in my hands. This site has taught me so much about my fellow human beings and I am so very grateful to have so many Cutie friends.
Thank you each and everyone of you for your contribution to Cute. Sarah.

It helps to understand other's needs and it helps to encourage some of us to post in Projects. We all need the inspiration found when we share our talents and ideas.

GREAT question! My problem is that I never get a project completed LOL. I like to make the embroidery squares and save them for a 'future project'. I also want to say that even the projects that don't seem up to par with some of the other wonderful projects, they are still inspiring to those of us that are not as talented. There are so very many talented people on here and I do love to see everybodys projects, whether it is simple OR detailed. I do not always comment on postings, but I always-always water the flowers. Sometimes that is all the time I have. But, please do know, how much I love this site, and how much I enjoy reading the postings. You all are in my thoughts and prayers for all who need it. ***4all***

Yes last 2 projects I was not able to upload files as their size was above 5 MB. So I had to reduce size and then upload.

Why I've never posted a project: Mostly because I'm so busy I don't actually get around to making many projects. When I do, they seem to get whisked out the door without my ever taking a picture of them. I will try to make an effort to get something posted soon.

What stops me:
1. Time - I work and I keep up multiple sites (I'm the founder of the TruEmbroidery Users group, active on G+ , Pinterest and Facebook). I'm also in a lot of Yahoo groups but pretty much just browse there as well due to time constraints.
2. Live in a rural location with only satellite internet - it keeps track of bits and bytes and shuts you down when you've used up your monthly allotment. This site requires uploading the photo (on Facebook or Pinterest, I can link to the photo on Flickr or my Blog and the pic shows up in the post - no bits and bytes taken off my monthly data allotment.
3. I'm not in the never category - more the rarely post photos, I do like to see others work and when I'm not rushing about try to say something nice (or at least flower) when others post.

by rescuer Moderator 16 May 2015

Just to clarify...
I mean -- never -- posted in Projects.
The Cuties I am thinking about have more than 30,000 flowers and yet they have -- never -- posted in Projects. These are the folks I am wondering about. They have been here a very long time and yet they never show their work.

I know some have issues with heath (notice it has been a while since I have posted in Projects) and so posting is rare. Not all of us are as healthy as we were when we were younger... probably too busy to stitch/embroider/sew and chat.
I have seen many collect the designs here and comment on other's Projects -- but they never post in Projects -- not even once.

Please know that I am only looking to help other's fully enjoy this site.

Ahhh, see I have answered your question in error as I have posted in projects but it has been quite some time ago. So I should not have responded to this post. My apologies.
I also posted how to post pics directly from an IPad and probably should not have posted that either.
Please accept my apologies and I will be more careful in the future.

rescuer by rescuer edited 16 May 2015

You have not made an error...please do not worry and I am so VERY glad you posted detailed instructions so another Cutie could post her Projects.

Knowing why Cuties have not posted for some time also helps me understand. Thank you so much for your reply here.

by sllakin 16 May 2015

Ok. Well I don't post much for several reasons.
Due to health I don't get much made any more. Many things I do make are from pictures posted in projects and I do not see the need to post the same thing again as by the time I get around to getting my project done CUTE has moved on to many other projects and mine is now in the past and no longer relevant.
And then again it is partly due to lack of comments or thanks in the past or just plain being ignored when I have posted but I must say that seems to have gotten better here lately.
I am trying to post, when I can, to try to help others although sometimes I am delayed in that too.
I do look forward to coming here each day and reading all the posts and seeing the projects. So I am still lurking around.

rescuer by rescuer 16 May 2015

Sorry about your health issues. I know it is hard to stitch when you do not feel well. Keep lurking...and post when you can.
I would say that as long as your Project follows the rules (located at the link at the bottom of each page) then any Project that includes machine embroidery IS relevant here.

As mrskiki said just below, I forget to make photo. Most of my projects of late are quilts..I try to build a stash for nursing home residents at Xmastime. They always have a message embroidered on, but are not primarily embroidery projects, so to speak. Additionally, I have always been lazy about pix taking, and never of myself. I promise I will try to do better in future. Now what project shall I do"."....

rescuer by rescuer 16 May 2015

Ah...but you have pages of post in Projects. I know sometimes life gets in the way of photos... You can always ask for a picture of the project (only so as not to include any person) from the recipient.
I say that knowing that I am still waiting for one from a neighbor...for more than a year.

Items that have no embroidery can always be placed in Crafting or Sewing. ;)

After 3 hours on the post I was writing I scrapped that, it was too long and just too raw with my emotion. This message created the firestorm within me, I wish it had not. I wish I could remember how to take pictures with my phone, I wish I knew how to post those pictures to an email and then to post on line, wish even more that I could produce projects like those I once was able to, though it was before I even knew of a cute community, oh and to be able to remember simple steps to do something that seems so easy to most. . I wish...I wish..and more I wishes and so very many prayers, hour after hour of them ..... I wish and pray, even more, that this question did not hurt so badly, as I know it was not the intent and only trying to understand so as to help others, if there was any way to help. I am just too raw. I know there are likely other members like me, who are just trying with all their might to stay connected with a hobby they love when their bodies are betraying them. For those who understand, I am so sorry we are in this condition. Just do the best you can with what you have each day, it is all you can do. We can each only give 100% of what we have, and for some that 100% is gone long before we can even get to our machines. I am continuing to pray for all of us in this situation that we will each find something that we can do each day, no matter how small, that will help you feel like you still have purpose.

When all else fails, wrap a quilt around yourself and pull it tight and think of every person who ever loved you or prayed for you, and think of your Heavenly Father and each of them hugging you through that quilt pulled tightly around you. (((Hugs))) for all of us. Pam

Pam my heart aches for you.Like you I know my life will never be the same again and I try not to let others see the pain. I simply thank God for ea day He gives us here in my home and ask Him for Grace for the day.. Lean on Him and let Him carry you, believe me He will! Try to count your blessings and think on what you are thankful for this takes your mind off your sorrows. I can only stay on my feet for a short while, but every time I sit down I take something in my hands to do. I just taught myself Tunisian Crochet ,a little over a yr ago my hands were so sore and swollen from arthritis I could hardly use them, thing is I had to anyway and now even though it hurts really bad at times I do it anyway. We never know what tomorrow is going to bring..Almost 9 yes ago my hubby had a massive Intracracial bleed that they could not stop for over 12 hrs and it was in an area that they could not operate on. He is still living although they told me he wouldn't. This time last yr he had a stroke and then a heart attack . They gave him a yr at the most, well he's still here and at home with me,true he cannot walk, cannot use his left hand and is now losing use of rt hand . I care for him with no outside help, we have good days and we have bad days. Point is we are not unhappy..I do not know your age but we will both be 77, he in July & myself the 1st week of Dec. God has put you in my heart now and you will be in my prayers ea day. I wish for you a better life and you are loved/Lillan

Ladies something that I hear time & time again & even though sometimes it is the last thing I want to hear I know that it is true So here is what I get told & may it resonate with you all! Don't think about what you CAN'T DO, think about what you CAN. I am one for thinking of all the things that I used to do & want so desperately to do & then I hear this familiar phrase & I remember after my surgery sitting in front of my machine & not having the foggiest idea how to go about threading it! I cries for quite some time & then came here & although typing that simple question was a humongous task in of itself I asked. Cuties came to my rescue time & time again & I have every confidence that they will in the future. SO I say to you we are here for you ask whatever it is you need to ask because not asking gets you no right where you are STUCK! Take each day as it comes & REMEMBER HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME BACK FROM WHERE YOU WERE! Prayers for all us cuties young & old frail or healthy & of course cyber hugs to you all as well~

Well said, Loralye!

anssmile by anssmile 18 May 2015

My prayers are with you. I understand exactly how you feel.

I've learned to live in my dreams - if things gets too much, I just close my eyes and imagine a perfect place where I can do all the things I want, and they are mostly things I used to be able to do, but can't do anymore.

Currently I am not only struggling to digitize and embroider (due to my eyesight), but I am trying to do a job that actually needs good eyesight and good hearing, with fairly bad eyesight and fairly bad hearing. And trying to hide both. I am hoping to memorize a lot of things so I do not actually have to see them properly in order to do them.

In my imagination I can see properly, think properly, hear properly and use my hands properly. And I can still do hand embroidering or knit or crochet.

And I can thread my overlock without trying to get the thread through the loopers for 2 to 3 hours at a time! No need to say, I have not used my overlock (serger??) in a long time.

All we can do is try and work around our problems, and where we can't, to dream we still can...

The frightening thing is that one has to go more and more regularly to that dream place to keep sane and most importantly, a reason to keep on living.

Hugs, and keep on believing in the miracle of prayers - it got my memory back to a large extent and got me out of a wheel chair. I know your health is much worse than mine, but keep your faith.

At least we can still see the beautiful designs and projects made by others and enjoy them!

And although we are unable to see it, I believe God has a reason for everything although we can not see it. When people tells me I don't get healthy because I have too little faith, I get upset because I believe we can not dictate to God. We can ask for health, but He will decide what He thinks best.

We just have to keep on praying and believing. And ask the church to pray for you - not the people who ask money to do it, but your own church or a friend's who does it out of love. I stood up 5 times in church for them to pray for me before I really saw and felt the difference.

May God grant you strength, and I am praying that you will get better!

Hugs
Anneliese

Carol, you can d/l Dropbox on iPad and computer. They sync and when you take pix and when both are turned on, the pix will transfer wirelessly to the Dropbox on computer. It's free. I've used it for 3 yrs.

Or you can email from iPad to yourself's computer. But turn it on or pix will come back to iPad-- unless address is diff.

sllakin by sllakin 16 May 2015

It is really much easier to post a picture directly from your IPad. Here is how to do it - I use an IPad mostly too!
1. Take picture with your IPad then sign into CUTE and go to Project section.
2. Click on "Upload Project" button
3. under "Title,description" - type your message.
4. Where it says "Images - click the Choose file button"
Chose "Photo Library" and use your finger to scroll to the picture you want to post.
Touch the picture you want to post and it then click the Green "Upload" button.
5. Now under "Tags" add words to describe your picture or project.
6. Click "Submit" button and you are all done!
No need to do any emailing or taking pics off the ipad. You can post them directly with your IPad!
Hope this helps anyone with an IPad!

When I first joined (in late 2009) I used to devour the projects section for inspiration as I had no idea what was possible. It took me a while to pluck up courage to add anything of my own, but after that, I posted just about everything I made for a while because I so appreciated the supportive comments.
Now, I automatically take a photograph of every project I do, but I don't post them all - only those that show something new or unusual.

Occasionally I get around to post a photo. One of the reasons for not posting photos of projects is,that our internet can be extremely slow at loading photos.Another is that I forget about taking the photo ,then that item is used as a present.
Seeing the the embroidery designs used in some of the projects, helps to get our creative juices flowing as well as leading us to explore different embroidery sites from around the world.

Since my shaking surgery I can again thread my embr/sewing machine. Am currently making name tags for crew at my new job. Will see if I can post or not when all done.

As DbC is no longer available that is not the issue. I am very sorry you can't digitise, that must so frustrating. I hope you'll recover soon to a level you can use that mouse and your software again!
I hope you'll be able to take a picture of your name tags and post those.

rescuer by rescuer 16 May 2015

I am glad you are feeling better.
I am only meaning the Project section.
Perhaps if you posted some of the stitched out embroidery items from the past...
ALL the designs in the DBC had to be shown with the stitched out design -- not the picture from the software. That is one reason the DBC is still down.

I have posted a few projects every now and then, but I do not have regular use of a camera that I can transfer photos from dependably. I also don't always have the camera available when I need to get a project out the door quickly, and then my opportunity to capture it is gone. People don't like to give back their treasures just to let me take a picture!

It can also be intimidating, especially for newer cuties, after seeing so many impressive/beautiful creations posted by others. But I agree with you, that no one should be afraid to show off their hard work. This is such a wonderful place to learn from others, and to feast on the talents of like-minded people from all around the globe. People here are very inspiring, and help to open our minds to possibilities we would not otherwise dream of attempting.
