Hoping someone from the UK might be able to help me.I want to buy a new hard drive for a laptop & the only one I can find is from the UK.I have emailed him about postage costs & the answer is, I'll find out when I check out after I buy it on ebay.I have had in the past, quotes for post from the USA which have been $40 for a 50gram item,so I'm very wary about this.Have looked at royal mail site but I don't know if Australia is in Group 1 or group 2.

The hard drive weighs 100g & is 1cm thick ,10cmx 7 cm
so it could be posted as a large letter or small parcel ,& takes10- 14 days to get here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ,even a link to the right site would be good.

asterixsew I would recommend getting a price for this lady as a small package as that would then be the most it would cost, I also have a feeling that if its a business seller on ebay then the ebay uk has changed its policy for international sales, we post to a uk hub and the ebay ships it international - and charges the buyer shipping costs,

Thanks to asterixsew ,finding out the postage costs at her end ,what I was charged seemed not too much but will find out in 2 weeks. All up it was still cheaper than some reconditioned ones

Surely there must be hard drives for laptops in Australia. Check out some computer shops and repairers. Too risky to buy one unseen from overseas.

I have bought one before from overseas it is still going strong. This is from a old laptop running vista which makes it hard to find one which is not reconditioned. The one I want is identical to the old one & they are easy to install once the screws are undone (thats the hardest part for me ).Computer shops have disappeared ,now so much is on the net.

Where are you? We are fortunate we still have some computer shops around.(Northern Rivers. NSW.)

I would check out a computer shop in Aust. I bought a replacement battery for my lap top a few years ago and the wrong one was delivered. No problems said the supplier send it back to Hong Kong and we will refund you. Trouble is the Post Office would not accept it as it was a battery. I told them it was delivered but Aust Post so I should be able to send it back Aust Post. Oh no said the lady they have a special contract with us so they can send but you can't. Couldn't find any carrier to accept it. So my loss and that.

I have had no trouble in buying the battery or a hard drive from overseas. When I bought the battery ,I sent a photo to the seller first as well as the laptops details, because I wasn't sure if it was it was the correct one ..

I have looked at the Royal Mail site. With the information you have given I got the result on the link below. Postage is different in each country which is why its often difficult to sort out. If you want I can ask in my post office tomorrow morning. Its midnight in the UK at the moment so I don't think I can help anymore and most other UK Cuties are sensibly tucked up in bed. I know many use other delivery services other than the Royal Mail which is why there is a variation on prices. I know I have been in the queue at the Post Office and repacked to reduce size and costs. Please ask if you need further help but I am going to go to bed first.
