Folks at work were talking about the people handing out leaflets outside the booths. One party actually paid people to do the job. Never heard of that one before. Some of the people who were to hand out leaflets turned up at the booths only to find out that they were working for some strange party and not the AEC, some left but some stayed. I not sure if I would have followed my principles or the $30 and hour????
I find that the people marking names off usually have no idea about how pretty basic names are spelt. I have had to point out my name at several elections. I went to pre-poll this time and it was the same.
I wonder how many times the wrong person is crossed off. This morning on John Laws' show I heard that there is a possibility that we may have to have another election because of an error on the I-vote
site.

I was very impressed yesterday when I voted as the people outside the polling booth were asking us to return their how to vote forms to them so they could be recycled to other people. Very pleased as they usually fill a HUGE BIN with them!! Another tree saved!!!
The people manning the booth that you attended definitely had the environment in mind .I wonder how much paper was wasted in this election?I remember my mother & grandmother saving the how to vote ad from the local paper to take with them on voting day in the 50's & 60's
I voted before 9.30 and the girl couldn't turn the pages on the book properly. So tiredness at the end of a long day wasn't her excuse.
As per usual, I found my name on the roll long before the person doing the job.
Even before that, I was given directions to go to the back of the room to have my name checked off. I pointed out to the woman at the door that I was going to the left wall. The back wall was the stage area and the voting booth area. DAH!
Didn't know who was the Supervisor, so I also told the fellow at the exit door. He laughed after shaking his head.
It is Sunday here and we won't know for a while who is in power in this area.
There was on man at the gate when I arrived and two when I left. But I went in the 'back' gate. :-)
They applied!
I think it is the selection panel who do the 'weird' part in picking people who cannot handle large volumes of people.
When we voted in Jan we were marked off the roll on a lap top. Don't know if it was because we did a pre vote as we were going to be out of state on voting day. I was a bit concerned that they might have a computer glitch and have no record of it.
Is it my imagination or is the white paper getting longer and longer, there is no room in the booths to spread it out and read any of it.. and far to many candidates and a lot of ridiculous parties trying to get into power. Oh well polling booths have closed nothing to do but wait for the out come..
now that's an idea, do yah think I can slip an extra one out at the next election.. definitely a talking point at dinner..
hope you get the result you want, heard there were more than 200 candidates, hope you had a good market, we just got home from one not a bad day better than expected, but, you can never tell....wendy
The upper house paper probably had that many candidates ,didn't have to count them because I just put 1 in the box above the column that I wanted to vote for
