It's always the next challenge and the next learning curve, right? Today I made myself an "expert" at hooping adult sweatshirts on my new 7 x 11 hoop. This was trick and a half! I got four stitched out, with no flubs! Anybody with the Innovis 2100 having trouble, PM me!

good for you..... I like the basting stitch & use it now on most everything I do big or small thick or thin. It works well for me. Seems you now have your system down pat & that works for you so kudos!~hugs~

Thanks for your great tips. I SHOULD have said, "pinning" adult sweatshirts on my new 7 x 11 hoop. It was still tricky, because of the length of the hoop and all that "leftover" sweatshirt fabric. But, i won the fight!

I'm still an old hooper. I very seldom just pin. I have trust issues, I know. :)
I do have a hint for you. Buy a box of large binder clips and clip that excess to your hoop edges. OR cut your stabilizer about 2-3 inches bigger than you normally would and "roll" your excess fabric away from the hoop and toward the stabilizer and pin it out of your way. (this is my favorite method) I know that the school of not wasting is dying to jump on this, but it's cheaper than therapy and God is happier with me.

Glad you got your four stitched out...I don't usually hoop thick items either...I use the basting frame for the hoop that is built into my machine, or pin, or sometimes basting spray....if you don't have basting frames for your hoop built in, there may be some available that will work in your machine that you can download (sometimes as a freebie)...I know Sew Forum had some...you run this first to secure the item to the stabilizer which is hooped...

Me I do not hoop sweats or thick towels, as the others say, just the stabilizer. I then pin in place and then machine baste. I do not like the spray adhesive so do not use it.. As other cutes have said, you should have been told this before, but then I do not recall you ever mentioning you had problems with this. I am not on a lot anymore but others are. No matter what the problem I have found someone here on cute will have an answer. Many of us have never had a lesson and have taught ourselves by experience and mistakes/Lillian

I do not hoop thick material and towels. I do the same thing I hoop the stabilizer spray the adhesive and stick down the thick stuff. Doesn't leave a hoop burn that way. Good job to figure it all out too. Suzanne

Kudos to you for rising to the challenge. I also don't hoop heavy fabrics like sweatshirts. Now we tell you after all of that hard work you went through. Shame on us. I hoop the stabilizer, use temporary adhesive spray and pin and pin the sweatshirt to the stabilizer.

Why are you hooping sweatshirts? Much easier to hoop one layer of stabilizer and iron on one layer to the shirt. Glad you had success. Hugs. Nan W
