Please excuse our mess as it is a work in progress.
this is a bracket style shelf & you can add as many shelves or as few as you want. It could go right where the shelf is & then you would have room for your Bernina & you could still sew in the same room. Just a thought. ~hugs~
Awesome.........Jim has an idea that will move the bernina into my other "craft" room........will let you know what we come up with......
you could build the shelf for the babies that has metal bars instead & that would solve your space problems... I will take a photo brb
Alright cuties, what we are thinking of is for Jim to build a table that has a table top large enough for the Bernina and then has a shelf that will raise from underneath for his music keyboard, then I can move the Bernina into the other "craft" room.....right now just his keyboard is where I would need to have the sewing machine and no where to move the keyboard, so I thought if he could rig a table that has a shelf for his keyboard under the sewing machine and if that shelf would lift up and out for when he needed the keyboard.....what do you think?
I do envy you. I have a closet sized sewing room. No room for 2 people in it./Lillian
I'm looking for a sewing support group, just so my husband thinks i'm looking for help for my fabric / design addiction .
I was trying to tell him that my son no longer needs a large room and that it's ok that I put him in my little sewing room (office size) and then I can take over his standard size room. Ha Ha
Is That Bad ?
your room looks great, wish I has space to hide my fabric //mm
Another thought, I don't know if that shelf on top of the computer desk is nailed down, but what about reversing it? that way you could put the Bernina in the larger area and put the computer in the smaller area.
I also thought of a mobile unit too to put the machine on. You've got lots of options to think about! Love Chris
This mobile unit will be an option Chris, if we can't get the table with the lift as I mentioned above, to come to fruition.......And no, the shelf isn't nailed down as the top is desk top is granite......duh, never thought to reverse them......I could even leave Gracycie where she is, I think....will see what we can figure out........
Very pretty room! Very organized and CLEAN!!! get in there mess it up a little by using it and you may come up with an idea for your Bernina! lolol. You and Jim did fantastic!!!!! one thought? is there a room next to this room that you could steal some space? *4all*
Thanks!! We have a 4 bedroom home and all the rooms are being used to the brim.........I would have to put an addition onto the room.........gggrrr........need to have Jim finish the house in AR before he does something like that here.........good thought though!
So many terrific ideas here..........Jim did think of putting a wall cleat or bracket in place of the middle brace, which we may still do, however the bernina still won't fit the total length of the unit with the emb unit attached is 48", without it is 30" and the controls have to face me which would put the sewing machine facing the end of the desk.............gggrrr.....we are now thinking of getting one of the portable tables that has been mentioned.....thank you for all your input, you are all so full of fantastic ideas!!
Have you thought about putting the table and shelves where the cats sleep on the wall under the other window? I'm not sure of the scale of the room nor the size of the table, but it's another alternative. Love Chris
Chris, had not thought of that, it is certainly and option, we need to have a way for them to get down from there though, right now they jump down onto the desk...the younger ones would be OK, but the older girls & Charles could risk breaking something at that height, there are so many things to consider it makes me dizzy!!
Husband is a cabinet maker and says that you could take the support leg out and either take a 1"X2" By the length of the unit that the Kitties are on and along the wall screw that wood piece so that the shelf sits on that piece of wood preventing the sag.Be sure to screw into the studs for support. Another option that would cost more money would be to get one or 2 more top shelf pieces and screw them together to make a thick shelf that would not sag 2 would be 1 1/2", 3 would be 2 1/4" if the existing material is 3/4". Hopefully either one of these ideas or one of the other cuties thoughts will work for you. I will ask him again in the morning and see if he has any other options that comes to his mind. 2 ideas at 1 am is not bad though, ;) Now I need to go check out your thread that I really should not even be looking at!!
Not sure where your going to put the Bernina, but you can leave it at my house till you figure it out. lol just kidding I don't think you want to fly to Australia each time you need to use it. Some good answers below and I'm sure between you and hubby you will make it work.. Marian
A spool or two and a bolt or two at a time. Plus, in your case, the cats may have been sneaking in extra, soft fabrics. such as minky dot.
wow! It still looks fabulous! As long as the kitties are happy! Lol!
I was just asking myself ... How did I arrive at my current situation, LOL Sometimes I feel like a sardine in my little 8x9 space ... FIESTA ANYHOW ;D
Would the Bernina fit under Tuxie, if it weren't for the vertical shelf support in the way? Maybe that kitty shelf could be re-designed so the support is not right there? There are other types of support for shelves. Otherwise, would it fit where the silhouette is, or could you make it fit where the plastic tubs at the left end of the bench currently are? Probably not as it looks like not enough clearance to the shelf above. You may need to empty the room and start again! Place all of the machines first, and then fit everything else. Perhaps the cats need a free-standing unit with ramps, where they can be above and below each other but still close enough to you!
I never tell any what is best but I do have my machines in the middle of room in a U shape. I have my in swivel chair in middle. Walls are for storage. Kay
You are no different from most of us. Where all this stuff comes from I don't know but it is hard to get rid of. Not only my sewing room, you should see my office. On second thoughts you should NOT see my office. LOL. Hugs Marg
I'm thinking this is a sickness we have. I too am a collector and my husband just said we are going to really get rid of stuff this spring. I think we should start with his stuff. I have an emb. machine...3 sergers....3 sewing machines and 1 old singer treadle machine. And I have the attic and two bedrooms and two huge closets full of fabric, sewing and craft supplies I'll never ever live long enough to use. How do we stop this?? I organize and reorganize and throw away and it multiplies behind my back... I swear it does!!
I have my grandmother's singer tredle machine, too. And a simple machine just for travel. Buy stuff but try to give things and make things away each time I go to church or my TOPS meeting or other places. Gets rid of a bit and makes some happy---have added a knitted hearts picture cloth and individual heart cloths in blue for a young lady in CA who has a young child (all she can have) who is recovering from breast cancer and a DOUBLE mastectomy and undergoing chemo---and a wonderful hubby---prayers for them---I don't even know them but am doing this as a favor for another young lady who has MANY health issues and 2 small children and Marine husband. God bless y'all!!!!!!!
I have a small area for sewing room---I have 3 embroidery machines---1 is on a rollie cart---I is on its own desk--7 drawers----one is on a small rollie cart against the wall---between my sewing machine--on a desk that has 7 drawers---and my serger---that I had fixed a year ago and haven't used at all since I had it fixed----that sits on its own desk--7 drawers---and I have a wheeled sewing bench that junk is piled on--and a wheeled desk/sewing chair---and a wheeled storage bench that Hunny made for me----I can only get to 3 machines to use unless I move piles of stuff from one place to another----and dog and cats visit occasionally---but it has a pathway since it is a HALLWAY
(hit the wrong key) walkthrough since it is an old house that the former owner "formulated" 30 years ago before we bought it 30 years ago. And I have junk in the attic and basement and a shed Hunny built. Someone will have fun when I go to be with JESUS. Several from the younger generation already have their eyeballs on it!!!!
God bless Y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your room is going to be wonderful! Can you put the Bernina or other machine, on a wheeled table that can be locked while sewing on it? Then you can pull it out when needed.
That is something we will have to look into.......we don't have alot of space to keep the bernina & table in the room.....it is because it is so large especially with the emb unit on it.....
Vicki the room looks great but I do wonder what you are going to do about your Bernina. Hugs
nice room.. love what you did with the cats and the floor is so nice.
