I think I'm finally getting into this embroidery thing. Done a couple of things just to test. Don't want to do anything on clothes until I'm a bit more experienced. But it's fun. Love to just watch the thing move and stitch automatically. Another 40 or 50 years I might get good at it.

Brittany, I have gotten so much fabric at bargain prices at thrift shops! Now, I just need to find the time to make the quilts for my children and grandchildren, before I "kick the bucket"!! LOL Machine embroidery is time consuming, but a lot of fun, as you watch the project progress!!
Hugs, Angel

You will get it, My first job of embroidery was 149 hoodies for a hockey team. It took me two weeks but I got through it. Didn't want to see a hoodie after that. That was six years ago and I still do embroidery. And sometimes I actually get to do stuff for myself.

We understand and feel your pain/joy! I started out practicing on my darling husbands car washing towels and went from there. It will only be another 40 or 50 projects NOT years. ;)

Welcome to the forum! As they say, everyone is new in the saddle once. When I first started, I didn't know that I was suppose to use stabilizer! You learn different techinques my trying something new out. It is good that you watch the machine stitchout. When you watch, you can see what caused the design to be good or not so good. It may look good on your computer, but not give good coverage when actually stitched. Don't be afraid to ask anything! Everyone here started out new and knows how many questions you'll want to ask. So ask away!

I have no problem with asking questions. Believe the only really stupid question is the one that's not ask. And like the thrift store idea. Tomorrow is the first stop. The one I like also has fabric. I'd like to do some squares for quilts. Goodness, I can think of so much that I want to do. What to do first?????????????

Good morning Brittany, and welcome from this Aussie. It's early Saturday morning here as I write. I too am fascinated by watching the designs stitch out and I've machine embroidering for over 12 years. This site is full of talented and helpful women and men from all over the world. As a few have said already there is someone on here 24/7, so anytime you need to ask a question - go for it. Hope to see some of your work in the PROJECTS section. Have a look in the Q&A section to work out how to move around this site. Love and blessings Chris, Newcastle, Australia.

I don't think one ever tires of watching a design stitch out. It is amazing. Thinking about it the majority of the sewing I do is not clothes. I am always doing facecloths as birthday presents for my grandson to take to parties and at the moment I also appear to be creating lots of tea towels which get handed out as presents. I am also partial to making cushions. Just go for it and have fun and gerryb has given great advice on charity shops - I am in the UK and that's what we call them. You will also find some great fabric to turn into something else there too. Machine embroidery is addictive so looks like you have joined the club

I started about 5 years ago and it too a while before I found this site - but once I did! Forgot about any others! Anything I have needed help with, there is always someone around to help. Even though you can call your dealer for help, they're only there for a short time where here you can ask 24/7! Most of the time when I have asked a question, I've had an answer within less than an hour at the most! and sometimes within a few minutes - depending on who's on here.
I still watch the stitch outs as I think it's facinating.
Good luck!

Welcome to the World Wide Family of Cute. No one ever sleeps on here, there is always someone awake somewhere in the world. It will not be long and this will be your first stop on the computer and before long you will realize you have been here for hours and forgotten what housework is. I know. Hugs Marg

I too am a new machine embroidery person, this group is full of the most lovely helpful people I have come across, they are the best friends that seem to know when you are struggling and are always there to help 24/7. I too sit in amazement how the machine sews, the design just flows out of the needle. I am afraid to try sewing on clothes too but after the GREAT suggestion gerryb has given you, I think I will be waiting at the charity door for them to open this morning.

Good luck with your adventures with this machine, and don't forget we all like to see what you have done . Trish

Make a quick trip to a thrift store & get some gently used clothing & practice...then you'll like it so well, you'll wear it! My first thing on a shirt was a denim shirt for 25 cents as it had a small hole in the back of the tail...so I just embroidered a large button over the hole! Put other sewing things on different places & I still wear that shirt a lot!!

I still have designs stitch out as screensavers on my laptop, fascinating to watch. But get that machine to work, starting with the easy things, monograms on tea cloths and towels and graduate from there. Have fun!

that's how we all started.. But I'm sure it won't take 40 or 50 years before you start tying.. just by a cheap tower / Tshirt and start experiencing.. you will see it is not all that difficult.. and if you don't know.. Ask.. there are here so manu nice people to explain stuf..

Nearly 15 years of machine embroidery and I'm still fascinated. But it doesn't take very long to get the experience necessary to embroider everything that can be moved close enough to the machine. LOL

Welcome Brittany....Don't worry yourself about getting better, you just have to worry about placement and the machine will do the rest. Enjoy!

Try some cheap "blanks," such as tea towels from the textile factory, shirts from Goodwill or Salvation Army, cloth baby diapers (mine cost under $2 each), bibs, washcloths, and good old muslin. If you do all your test stitching on cheap muslin, eventually you can stitch them together on the sewing machine to make a skirt for your mantel (all Christmas or all spring or all floral).

Welcome, Brittany. I recently joined the Cute women & as stated by many, they truly are wonderful & helpful. Don't be afraid of that machine. Mistakes are just OJT for creativity. I have been having fun with cloth napkins. You can get them real cheap at the thrift shops & if they turn out well.... use them.... if not use them in smaller chunks! Can't wait to see your work. My husband is also mesmerized by the machine. Cindy
