Good news to share - I've got a new Dongle! (security key for my Husqvarna and Brother sewing machines).

Hooray for Maarten from Thorpe's sewing machines in Hunter Street, Newcastle. It arrived from America yesterday and my husband Trevor went in to town this morning after seeing Amy and bought it home for me. I just had to put it in the computer and register a new password. It's all done and now back to quick downloading without any problems at all.

It's been an expensive week though as my Laptop had a cracked screen and had to be fixed - $471.00 and with the new dongle $250.00 plus us being away with Mum for 4 days well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never mind, it's Christmas next week and all that will be forgotten. Love Chris

Chris, glad you have your new dongle. I guess i missed what happened to your original. I was always warned to really guard it as costly to replace. My dealer does record each dongle # and keeps on record as a safety back up. Kay

looks like bread and water for you Chris, for Christmas lunch!!! Really makes me wonder why the makers of Dongles etc make it soooo expensive to replace them. Surely it's just a registration matter, and if you returned the one which was unusable, it should be just the price of the thing itself??? Anyway hope you have a lovely day, going to be a nice temperature right across our nation [good for eating]

Great. Good idea would be to get a USB hub, so that the dongle would not be snapped off (heaven forbid) , or worn from removing and replacing from the computer.

Right don't loose it or tread on it either. Very glad to hear that the dongle has arrived and should you have any free time over the net few days I am sure you will enjoy using it and get round to creating something again

Glad you can use your software again, that makes life easier.
i don't need the software for uploading designs to my Ruby as that has a flash drive but unfortunately Windows8 does not support the reader/writer for my Iris. So I have to use a very old laptop that has a wonky screen and an external monitor plus the ancient system 5 Husqvarna customiser software to write to a card. quite a set-up - but the Iris is great for ordinary sewing.

Glad you are a techie, because you just lost me. I have a card reader/writer but it is nor compatible with windows 7.

Finally, happy for you. tough on the pocket book but I always say ''you can't take it with you'' and be thankful that you are able to afford it. Many are not.
Back to the simpler way of doing things

That's how I feel Michelle. I'm thankful we can afford it! Trevor doesn't go back to work though till near the end of January! So we will have to be careful. Love Chris

Hi Marian, here is a brief explanation of what the dongle does.

" A Hardware Against Software Piracy (HASP) dongle is a type of computer hardware device designed to combat software piracy. These devices must be plugged into a computer in order for software to function, and are often used in place of serial numbers or other forms of authentication. Dongles can also be used to create and enforce other business models for software, such as rental or feature-driven models. For end users, dongles can offer both convenience and frustration."

The Husqvarna and Brother machines use them. Love Chris
