I would love to have either but with prices the way they are I'll have to wait can think of better things to use money on.. Oh well I suppose this doesn't really help you much.. Marian

As other cuties have said - depends on how you think you would use it in the future. The dies cut more layers and don't require a bunch of preparation - but you are limited to the dies you have. If you are going to make the same type of things many times the dies are good. The other machines allow more flexibility for different cuts but require preparation of fabrics, mats, etc.

The dies can cut up a number of layers, the Brother just one layer at a time. I have the Silhouette and that too only cuts one layer at a time and fabric has to be ironed onto a stabiliser - they recommend their own of course but I'd like to try a different one, just when I get used to my machine.
But the versatility of making your own designs is something to consider.

I iron fabric but can cut about 6 layers,Its a shame that other dies will not work on the accuquilt
Doing your own designs with the scan&cut sounds good to me

That's a toughie...I guess it depends upon how much versatility you want in the future...dies are expensive...If you plan to do a lot of applique or other types of cut out projects (like rhinestone settings) or papercrafting...I would go for the Brother Scan and Cut...no dies to buy in the future and it has so much versatility...I don't have one yet, but I am thinking about it and how much I would really use one...jury is still out for me...choosing between the Accuquilt or the Scan and Cut..no comparison...Scan and Cut all the way...but I don't already own the Accuquilt..not much help am I?

I'd buy the Brother Scan N Cut as you can take applique designs into it and use it to cut your applique design so that you don't cut it while it's in the hoop. You can also scan material and then use the machine to cut out a certain design, like a flower, owl, bird, etc. I believe that it is much more versetable(sp) then the accuquilt. I purchased the Silhouette Cameo and I think it has more of a learning curve than the Brother ScanNCut does.

I would love a ScanNCute - but it is just too expensive. I do a lot of appliques and think it could be just the thing for cutting those out ahead of time. But, I don't own one! Good luck!!
