hi, i have been pondering a question that has been asked of me by a child who always wants to know what, where, why and when sort of thing.well the question is " what is Happy Holidays".what kind of holiday is it.i thought about it and now i am wondering too. is it a thanksgiving holiday or easter or happy flower or going away holiday or no school holiday.and if it is just Happy holidays that means we do NOT have to give gifts or have santa or a tree or sing carols etc.we could just go sight seeing, eat lots of food and candy and say say " what a happy holiday we had." i tried to tell him that some people do not believe in christmas.and they do not like when other people talk about.they do not believe in baby jesus, or santa or presents etc. he started to cry and said " that if they not like it they can cover their ears up and not listen.cause he loved baby jesus and songs and santa and presents those three men that carried gifts for baby jesus and everything christmas.he thought those people were not nice cause everybody loves baby Jesus. so i will keep saying Merry Christmas and if somebody does not like it "COVER YOUR EARS" so to all the cuties MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. do not forget baby jesus. God Bless You All.

I do not mean to denigrate any ones wishes to celebrate whatever their religious beliefs are. I'm just VERY tired of the assault on MY beliefs. I therefore only use the terms Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Political correctness has become Political Stupidity as everything is offensive to some one. So I agree completely with this little one...so cover you ears, close your eyes, sleep through the end of the year or whatever it takes to get you yourself through...stop stepping on my feelings and forcing yours on me! Neither is an end all, be all or do all...one size doesn't fit here. So get over it!

You are right that this is a difficult question from a very inquisitive child. Tell the child the truth that our neighbors and friends of different faiths celebrate this time of year in different ways. Explain that just because they are different does not mean that they are bad people--only different. We also should not be so blind to suggest that only Christians exchange gifts or have a strong belief in a higher power. Most people follow the religion and traditions into which they were born.

I am more of a Happy Holiday, to me it encompasses all faiths . Since in almost every country whether you celebrate the 25th its a holiday, a time to celebrate this day as you wish. So Happy Holidays to All!

Thank-you jrob now I fee even better when I say it!

It's actually quite funny because the word 'Holiday' is derived from "Holy Days". Those people who will only use "Happy Holiday" are actually being MORE religious than they even know.

I am a Christian. I wish one and all a Merry Christmas. A holiday is something I take when I want to get away for a while.
MERRY CHRISTMAS CUTIES.
GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE.

yes it is my tradition to wish people a very Merry Christmas, and that it what I do I do not interfere with other traditions or beliefs so I expect the same from other traditions and beliefs. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I will never use any other greeting but Merry CHRISTmas and tough luck to those who don't like it, they are guests in the country of my birth and if they don't like our customs they can go back to where they came from.
I refuse to watch, or listen to, or read, or share, ANYTHING that says happy holidays instead of Merry CHRISTmas.
So Merry Christmas one and all.

I too wish all Cute's a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Those who don't like it can cover their ears as the little child has said. God bless him. Hugs Shirley

My Jewish boss always said Happy Holidays. It covers Christmas, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, and Hanukkah - whatever occurs late in the year (I'm sure I have forgotten the Muslims in the list- just don't know what they celebrate in winter).

Those in my office who wanted to be inclusive called the Christmas Party the Holiday Party, but I knew the big boss was a Methodist and I knew he provided the party, so get real, we were celebrating Christmas and we all got a Christmas bonus!
