This may be a rather stupid question, but I have to ask. I am new to this site/embroidery, what does fsl mean?

Never think your question stupid. A question asked means interest and interest leads to creativity and creativity leads to spectacular projects! I too was unfamiliar with FSL until recently and I have been doing machine embroidery for about a years (and other crafts even longer). I still don't do FSL but I do enjoy looking at the projects Cuties post! Welcome to the site!

That made me smile. You are so good in digitizing FSL items. Look where you are now.

Dear Angie, since I saw the FSL, I knew I had to learn to make those, many mistakes in my first learning, including ironing WSS! :) Love, Yoriko

FYI, there are NO stupid questions here!! Just good ones! You should never feel bad about asking. This site is built on helping people to learn and learn to love embroidery and those who share the passion. Welcome to CUTE! Remember, everyone here had to start at some point and learn each and every thing at one time or another.

Welcome to this site.
Never a stupid question. Believe me, if I did not read and post questions I would know very very little about machine embroidery. The other question of newcomers is what the little flower is for. We click on them and the green ones turn orange. That is saying Thank you to people that answer or post. Hope you will like it here.

here are some examples. When you wash away the stabilizer all you have left is lace ,there is no backing fabric
