11/22/14 Just got my computer back from the "Virus Doctor" (won't call the company's real name) and first thing wanted to log on and catch up with everyone. Well, as I typed graceandham, I got gibberish. Tried again, got different gibberish. That's right, they didn't fix the settings back right. So, now after 90 minutes of tech support on the phone, I can type and get what I typed.

The next frustration, they really wanted me on Google Chrome, so that's a whole new learning curve and I keep downloading backwards and putting everything not into the right subdirectories/folders. Fixed that.

If I can take any more technical stuff today, I need to erase my Passport backup in case it had any of the virus on it, then re-download their program and backup all my newly reinstalled and updated stuff! This is way more than I bargained for.

The funniest moment (and yet not) was when the geek wanted me to log in to their online help and I said, this isn't going to work. After some consideration, he agreed! I am neither a geek nor of his generation, so it was like I was speaking Spanish from Mexico and he was speaking Castilian. So glad to be back - sort of.

Okay, three more problems, so back to the repair queue and they SAY it's fixed again. I'm hoping. 180 miles so far to and fro.

I've been through all this so I know your frustration. You know much more than I do so it's really hard for me to right the wrongs. I never can understand what they are telling me to do over the phone, Recently told a young man over the phone to put some body on the phone that could speak Southernease to an old woman so she cold understand it. He got tickled and went to laughing but got me someone that would speak slow enough for me to understand. Old age can get very exhausting sometimes/Lillian

Lilian, I just tell those support people in the Phillipines and India that my ears cant hear as fast as they can talk. I drawl a bit as I say this and they usually get it. But they also speak very loudly, as if that's the problem.

Chrome is not so difficult, much faster than IE, and if you run into a problem, just question google on how to do whatever it is. I've imported all my old bookmarks from IE, like the ease of downloading, and getting to that file. The headings at the top do not take up as much room, so I have more screen. Give it a bit, and once you're comfortable with it, you will like it, too.

My daughter talked me into using Chrome a couple years back. I tried using a couple others since then but come back to Chrome. It seems to be quicker and runs smoother on my computer. One thing I really love is that you can highlight the instructions of something, click on print, in the sidebar it comes up as to what you want to do...I click save to pdf and I have accessible instructions. I don't know how powerful your computer is but I have set certain pages to open (in settings where the 3 bars are in the upper right corner) so I don't forget the designs there if collecting an alphabet.

Thanks, teddybear, the save to pdf is a new one for me! I had either saved info to a text file, or highlight the address, open another page to printfriendly, and make a pdf from there. There are so many things our computers can do that we don't know unless someone else tells us.

I've discovered, that if you find a link that is not highlighted and clickable, to either( swipe and highlight) or (click on it til it is all highlighted) and then right click on that. From that you can print, or if the link is good, there is a "go to" option. If the link is not good, it will say "search"

Go and get the 5 year old neighbor kid, he can probably help you out and knows more then they do anyway. Sorry for all the hassle.

Update - 2 and half hours trying to disable new protection and erase old backup (possibly infected). Erased the software by which it operates, which their site assured me was an easy fix. It was no. The download had to be done in two parts and now that it's all in place, guess what - they want me to buy a code for it to work with their product I already bought. Aargh! Phone support returns Monday morning.

Pheeew...I feel your pain...hoping you get all of your "regular" programs and options restored back to "normal"...I hate when techs have to take over my "normal" to fix things...they never get it restored back to what your "normal" is...

Oh, sorry for your troubles. They may have my address! My new computer came via UPS (8:pm) last night and I have to set it up. Jumping from XP to 7proffessional. Took "rescuer's" advice in order to have compatibility for my 'old' software. Crossing my fingers- and toes. And eyes 😀

Don't ask the "geek squad" for help. They charge an arm and a leg and often don't tell you what you need. I am so glad you got the 7 pro! You will be happy -- soon! There are some YouTube videos on how to use it. They can be quite helpful. I do hope there is better support for you in your area than the "squad"

Has any geek ever runa sewing machine or even heard about computerized machines in software?

My techies are young and brilliant...BUT, no. They are so fascinated when I start talking embroidery software!
