Looks like I will be making a 225 mile trip to the dealer tomorrow...got a nasty thread nest sucked down into the bobbin case...not only did I have to cut the hoop away, I had to actually cut out the thread nest from the bobbin case...and I think that there were some other "parts" affected as well...after all was taken apart to look for stray thread, etc., I put it all back together and it makes a grinding noise when I sew...Uggghhh!!!

It has something to do with something happening to the bobbin case, but I can't see anything...and the bobbin case looks perfect..like new...so something else is causing the bobbin case to act up...I am hoping that I can call the dealer tomorrow and they can troubleshoot over the phone...but I am not hopeful that it is something simple I can fix at home...so, I guess it's football for me today...I have a BabyLock Ellisimo if anyone has any other suggestions...

Oh! dear, what a long way to have to travel to get your machine repaired and I do hope he can fix it for you whilst there; otherwise what a long way to go just to have it checked over. I am so fortunate in that our dealer is only a 20 minute drive from my place. Kim, I hope your machine can be fixed for you straight away. Good luck, love Chris

How did it go? Is your machine fixed??
I did a flying trip to my dealer for a tiny bit of thread in the upper area. Phone calls, etc, etc. Did the trip and he found nothing. Maybe the trip finally dislodged the last piece for me. Luckily no machine parts were damaged by me or the thread. He cleaned it and gave it back to me for free. It is one of 4 machines that he services for me. And he is only 50 kilometres (roughly 30 miles) away.
Did a quick distance calc - you may still be on the road as I type..
Good luck with your baby.

Kim I have the Ellisimo 11 I had thread problems but the thread was wound up in and around that brass gromrmet inside the machine, when you take the 2 top pieces you can see the grommet move up and down as you turn the fly wheel., My machine's safety went off and shut the machine down completely. Luckily I'm only about 130 miles rnd trip from my dealer and I was on his doorstep when he cane in the next morning. Left it and got it back the next day. He kept all the thread he got out and put it in a baggie, I couldn't get over how much it was. /Lillian

No, I didn't leave the room...I was right there to see the disaster happen..not sure why, but hoping the service tech can shed some light on the cause...

I found a BirdsNestTool on line here somewhere that has bailed me out more than once---most of the time it is the DESIGN for me that causes the birds nest----I do NOT leave my machine EVER while it is stitching---I watch every stitch---if it decides to LOOP I catch it within a few stitches--cut-trim-backup--restitch----It takes a lot of time to just sit and watch----the last time I left and let it stitch I ended up with about 4 repairpersons and $500 in repairs and parts on a machine that was less than $1000 to begin with-----GRRRRRRR-----but after finding the RIGHT repairperson and a 90 mile drive (one way) the machine stitches beautifully MOST OF THE TIME when I have a good design---I do have 2 old low tech backups which I use if something happens to the newer machine---I am retired and stitch when I feel and want to stitch----I love doing things for others and I love the look in their eyes when they get something TOTALLY UNEXPECTED----makes all those hours of work worth it---hope you get your machine fixed quickly---God bless you.

Thanks so much...I have that bird thread nest cutting thingy and it is what I used to actually cut the hoop off...I always sit with my machine while stitching...and I heard it go...pushed the stop button as fast as I could...still ugly! Thanks for your shoulder to cry on...

sorry to hear about the thread nest... my dealer is in Mission Viejo and I live in Oceanside.. my machine went to the repair and I just got it back good as new.. I think a piece of thread was caught in the upper threading area.. the area where you can't see.. but when I looked in the little slot with a flash light I could see a extra thread.. so there was no tension on the upper thread..

I think we may have the same dealer...but you live much closer than me...I have removed the machine casing for the bobbin area and the threading slot at the top...no threads caught now in either..tried a new bobbin casing..still have a definite clunk in the bobbin case area...faster I go, more it clunks/grinds as it goes around...I think something got bent or tweaked in the bobbin case area..but it's not the bobbin case...tomorrow I will be able to call and talk to the service repair staff...until then...bit SIGH...

I was having the same type of problem with my Janome. Somehow, thread was caught underneath the bobbin case holder & he had to remove that to remove the threads. I can't tell you how he did it, but it was fine after that. All you machine may require is a good cleaning. Taking apart, cleaning & oiling and put back together again. Best to you and machine.

I had that happen with the birds nest too. There was a small thread caught on the take up lever. And with the birds nest growing where the bobbin case is. It needed the thread removed and oiled. I had it done at my local Babylock shop. They done this at no charge to me. I hope that all yours needs too.. Good Luck Peg

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 19 Oct 2014

Thanks, Peg...it might have been a small thread in the take up lever that helped cause the thread nest originally, but now I think it is more than that as their is a noise coming from the bobbin case area...

I am sorry. I don't have any ideas that you have not tried...unless you can unplug it and fool it into thinking nothing is wrong with it. Otherwise, it does not sound good...sorry you must make the long trip.

It is moments like this that I am very thankful my embroidery machine dealers are all less than 30 miles from me. I would be distraught if I had to travel that far to fix one of my machines. Sympathy and hugs

Thanks, Rescuer...I was hoping that you could rescue me...again...but not to be! I have unplugged it...it happened yesterday so I will go back upstairs today and give it another try...although I am not counting on it magically working today...

rescuer by rescuer 19 Oct 2014

I wonder if something was wrong before the thread nest. The only other thing I might try is using a Q-Tip in the bobbin area and then add one drop of oil for the bobbin case.
Good luck! Sorry I could not rescue you today. You could move into my neighborhood and then my dealer (less than 30 minute drive) would gladly help you. ;)

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 19 Oct 2014

Perhaps there was something else that "caused" the thread nest...and probably so...but, now I think it is something bent or damaged...I did take a q-tip and cleaned the whole area...I had the bobbin case out and the also the cover that covers the thread cutting assembly nest to the bobbin case area and cleaned and inspected all of that...no go...sounds like something is bent...more to follow...
