I had a Rowenta, best iron on the market. Mine lasted about 20 years plus and rusted so had to be . Unfortunately I could not find a Rowenta at that time and had to settle for another brand. If I do see a Rowenta again here in South Africa I will definitely buy it whether I need it or not. Enjoy yours. Hugs
Great price ! I purchased this Powerglide iron many years ago, it still works the same, like new. My new one was around $ 80 back then.
Hugs, Bonnie
Like I said, it probally is old, but in good shape. Good to know yours is still working like new, too.
Great find, great buy! Now I will start looking for sales on sheets.
Great bargain. I only use Distilled water in my iron I feel it makes them last longer.
Sorry but you are so wrong in calling it an "I##n", that is a four lettered word and should not be used on this site
This is actually a "Craft pressing " device. I have had a "Craft Pressing "device for many years and should know the difference and I will NEVER own another "I##n in my life as they are so tiresome to use where as a "Craft pressing " device is so easy and a pleasure to bring out and use all day long if need be.
please do not use that nasty four lettered word again .
annie.
Craft pressing devices can be found manufactured under many names and can use steam to get those perfect creases sometimes needed in our craft work
Sorry Annie if this word offends you , but I still iron and at least one of my children, does too. Looks so much better, but it is also my craft pressing device. Have a great day and a late Happy Birthday to you.
I too am an ironer toogie, all permanent press has to have a little press after coming out of the dryer. LOL My grandmother ironed, sheets, dishtowels, everything, /Lillian
I found one at a garage sale a young woman was having and got it for a dollar, don't think she knew what she had, it looks brand new and irons soo good, love it
She probally did know what she had, that's why she got rid of it-lol-She may not iron!
I was at a garage sale once where a young lady was looking at an ironing board that was folded up. She asked what it was and how did it work. So naive, she was clueless.
I sewed professionally for many years making custom made window treatments. Once I discovered Rowenta it was the only iron that I used in my workroom. The quality is unsurpassed, and certainly is worth the extra initial cost. When I would buy a new one for the workroom the old one would come home with me. LUV em, LUV em. Suzanna get that iron out of the closet today. You will wonder why you waited.
Ok, ok, alright, my Rowenta will come out of the closet today! I will keep you posted on this steamy series! Lol, hugs, Suzanna
I love estate sales. Leave your hubbies at home unless you need them to pick up the finds. I go the last day and final hours and there are the bargains!!! Sometimes everything is gone and some times not. I am glad you got that iron. I love them. My daughter loves them. My sweetie bought his children Rowenta's after he used mine. There is no other iron like it!!! Kay
Some estate sales are auctions, while others are ran by the family and priced. This was already priced. They had a small oak round table, with four chairs. It had the claw feet, or whatever you call them. I love it. It was in excellent condition, even though it was very old. Our cousin got it for $200. !
I hope to find a deal like you did! Excellent for you. Quality tools really makes a difference. I have an ergonomic mini iron and I really need a clover with attachments.
I love my Rowenta! I got it on sale, NOT as much of a deal as yours though. I'd heard so much about them I figured they were worth it since I was buying a new cheap one so often. They get nice and hot and have lots of steam. It has been worth every penny. Hope you get lots of use from yours.
I use sheets to line curtains with - nice and wide and usually close to perfect length.
Sheets can be used for so many things. Walmart right now has some pretty pink, like pepto-bismol pink. I have no idea at the moment what I would use it on, but they sure have caught my eye.-lol
Good for you! I've eyed up the Rowenta, but the price stands in my way! I have a good iron - took me a while to get it as I looked everywhere we went I would check out irons as I am fussy and I didn't like most of them. I've been to estate sales and sometimes they just put such high prices on some things. - but you really got a good deal - now you'll be hooked on the Rowenta!
I've wondered what they were like, but don't know anyone who has one.
I also use sheets (I usually get them at garage sales for a $1) - they are good for so many things. One garage sale we were at someone said something about us getting sheets and my d/h told them yes, but she doesn't see it as a sheet - she sees fabric!
That's what a friend of mine says about me, when we are at thrift shops...........I don't see what it is, I see what it could be.
I have a new Rowenta in my closet for at least 3 years! I bought it when Joanns had a miss print in ad. They did not want to honor the miss printed price, but I stood my ground. I do not remember the price but it was VERY cheap! I will use it when my old iron dies. After reading the comments I am thinking about using it soon! Problem is finding it in the over stuffed closet! Hugs, Suzanna
My iron still works too, but it didn't take my daughter a second, to tell me to throw my old one......she has ironed with it before-lol
Ok, here comes the Rowenta out of the closet! But now I need get a new ironing board cover, maybe one on sale at Joann's.
Good for you to get a good deal. Enjoy it. I am kicking myself that I didn't spurge years ago and get a high end Rowenta. Good idea using sheets for linings. I have purchased brand new sheets for a song and use them for everything from placemats and coasters to test fabric for designs.
Hi Karen, You do get so much more fabric for your money, when you can use a sheet. I usually buy the twin flats, but occasionally can get a full for a good price. I emb and then make pillowcases out of them, too. I have also used them for test designs. We girls have to save where you can, makes for a good homemaker, in my book, anyway.
Sew Lucky, enjoy!
lol-I don't know how much luck had to do with it. It was flooding rain that morning and we figured nobody would show up...evidently the other people thought the same...maybe it was luck that we got anything.-lol
It is a nice clean iron, you got a great deal! When my mom was living, she had a neighbor who ironed everything right down to his bluejeans, and sheets, and everything. I own 3 irons, so they should last a life time. I have orange sheets too Toogie. lol!
I buy sheets for backing, for instance, when I quilt my purses I put batting in between the main fabric and sheet, then I usually line with what matches. The sheet may or may not match, but it won't show in making a quilted fabric for front and backs. Something to go under my batting... My g-mother ironed my g-pa's underwear/shorts, pillowcases, etc.
When I have the strength I still starch and iron my pillow cases. I only iron the fold down part of the pretty embroidered sheets. Looks so pretty and I like the way they smell and dress up a bed.
Good find, It's always fun to go to estate sales, but when you find such a great deal it makes it so much sweeter.
I know what you mean. My son-in-law will end up with my chair I bought. He likes it and said he wants it when they build, so I guess I'll get to have it a while.-lol- The daughter said her dad bought a pair, to rock her brother, the day he was born. She said that was 53 yrs ago. I said I wanted the pair, but someone had already bought one of them. Oh well, I got the one.
You DID get a deal. I wouldn't trade my Rowenta for anything. I have heard lots of folks complain that theirs leaks. If you turn OFF the steam (turn it to dry) when you finish, it shouldn't leak. Mine has never leaked. I'm on my second one in 3 decades and I'll for sure purchase another one when this one gives up.
I figured most quilters had one, because I see on U-Tube they are used. Glad you have always liked yours, so far, I do mine.
Gotta love those Deals:):)Looks great and i am happy for you and for anyone that can shop and get great deals .I love a buck deal myself hugs Carolyn
I bought some other things, too, like a twin quilt gor $3. and a rocker, like I needed another-lol
I had one of these irons also that I paid lots of money for.. it was a lemon.. sputtered water all over .. I should have taken it back.. but did not.. gave it to Goodwill... I am glad you have such a great success with this product..
Ah, what a shame... yes, for the price they are, why didn't you take it back? I sure would have.
I have a rowenta iron and I love it! You got a great deal! I think I paid close to $100 for mine several years ago!
Hugs, Nadyne
I told my husband, even on sale they are around $89.00. I took a chance for $7. but my husband knew the elderly people that died, and their daughter said it worked fine. I am more happy than if it was new.
Thanks Katydid, it doesn't take much to make me happy.............'course I try to be, most of the time.
