Does anyone else have this problem? When I see "you need to back-up your files", I panic and think, tomorrow before I get on Cute, I have got to do that! Tomorrow DOES come (and go) and I still don't do it. I get so interested in all the topics, the time I did have, to at least start, is gone. Sigh................................

No, thank goodness, I have Carbonite. I have had to restore twice. Lol!

When it is too difficult to remember or stop long enough to do it -- if you have the money -- then use an online backup service. Then your files (that you designate) will automatically be backed up without your having to do anything more than have an always on internet connection, set it up the first time and then pay the monthly dues.
The backup would only be a copy of your files and not something you would access to use your files. You keep your files on your computer. It is best to have your files in 3 different places.
You can make copies of your files if you wish to do that and save those to the CD's or DVD's. Making a "backup" (which is not something you access) on CD's is risky as it only takes one error to mess up the whole bunch. In that case is is best to just copy files to the CD's. Also, making a backup to the computer you are on is not the best solution. If you only have one hard drive and it fails -- you have lost your backup too. If you have two hard drives and the computer is hit with a power spike -- you may have lost both drives with one spike.
Good luck with this!

Oh, my goodness, it's all so confusing to me. I think I will start with cds or dvds. Someone told me dvds hold a lot more....

Yes, DVD's hold more. You can get larger DVD's too so ask at the store to see which ones hold the most.

Okay, thanks.

toogie, you simply must back up those files, I have an external hard drive and thumb drive and cds. You think "it will never happen to me" but it does. I lost no designs, but a lot of Passwords, that I did not have written down and it has caused me problems. Hugs/Lillian

Yes, me too. It will happen, and I will be upset. I am the great procrastinator. I rely on my computer too much to be faithful. Hahaha!!!!

When my old pc went out, the guy was able to retrieve my designs. Don't want to chance it again.

I have lived in fear that I would lose my designs like everyone else. I have them backed up on an external hard drive. I don't trust it because it is several years old. I also started backing up my designs on thumb drives. It took me quite a while but all of my purchased designs are now on thumb drives. And for instance, now when I buy designs from Cute, I put them onto the Cute thumb drive, then into my computer. And my hubby has me signed up for Carbonite. Three back ups and now I feel better.

You sound just like me Karen. I want them in mutiple disc, thumb things, etc. for fear something might not work when I want it to.

Karen-This is my plan too, backing up on thumb drives. I've started to accumulate more designs and would hate to loose them. I do have an external hard drive also that I try to back up to periodically.

Cute is not going anywhere. Set a day, do it, and then you won't be panicking when something crashes and they are all gone. Heard this happening a lot lately. Backup on a cd or dvd, (Make 2 and keep them seperately) (I then copy that to an external hd) The files I actually keep on the computer are all backed up like that and if that hd goes, no loss. As I get designs, they go on a flash drive, and then I just put all of that on the dvd, check to make sure those work, clear it, and start over.
Then we will all smile with you as you check what's gone on. Takes moments.

Wish you were here..........heard that before? I am so slow with pc things. I bought a flash drive. I have plenty cds and dvds, bought both. If and when I put on a flash drive or disc, do I then erase from my pc?

jofrog2000 by jofrog2000 16 Sep 2014

As long as you have hard copies (cd/dvd), then by all means keep them on your pc to be able to get to them. Just don't depend on flash drives as saving places, because they, like a hard drive, can go bad. I've had that happen, but it was copies of files that I was sorting into catagories. (I save by digitizer first).

I bought a back-up and restore unit for our computer that will back-up on a schedule that we set and what we want to back-up, if it sees something new it backs it up.

Well now that's interesting, something to think about.

Yes, I do relate to that very much. I just can't seem to find time to do all the things I need to complete. This is much more interesting, than dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc. I can't even find time to ride my exercise bike. I know, I'll put a desk over the handlebars so I can put my laptop on the desk. Now to find time to find the desk.

I can relate to the lack of excerise. I was walking 5 miles a day last year and this year..................nothing. With all the homemade ice cream I've been eating (hubby can't eat alone, now can he?) I better get back on the treadmill ASAP !-lol
