*******Please RE-Check your posts.********** Also remember if you choose to post directions or a link to a site -- it is YOUR responsibility to check the entire site for obvious illegal designs. If they have even one single illegal design -- do not post the site name or directions or links for it here. Obvious illegal designs include Disney or any cartoon character as well as movies and team or business logos.

Any posts that include the name, directions to or links to an illegal site will be removed. Repeated issues may result in you being banned from Cute.
We do send a PM to help those that do not know -- understand -- but it is still your responsibility. If you have been here long enough to know better -- your post will be removed and no PM will be sent.

Please re-read the Terms and Conditions of this website. The link is located at the bottom of each page.

Any posts -- including ones in Projects -- will be removed if they contain links or directions to sites that do not follow US and International laws.

Also, please note that some sites will claim they have a right to post (Disney for example) but they do not. Cuties, be careful...

For those that have not had a chance to read this post -- back to the top.

Please note: Promoting illegal websites or designs is illegal. Copyrights and licensed images need to be respected. Do not post a link to a website unless you really know (because you checked) that it does NOT violate the Terms and Conditions of this website.
Thanks for your help with this

Thank you, rescuer, for this timely reminder. I try to stay off sites that have illegal designs. But when I am surfing the web for a design, should I look at all their designs before downloading the one that I want. I know this may have been answered before, but my poor little brain just can not hold all the information I need.

Please remember it is YOUR responsibility to check sites prior to posting a link. Even if the site has hundreds of pages, you must check them all for any obvious copyright issues.
Posts with copyright issues will be removed.

I received a newsletter from Embroidery Delight announcing the release of their Dora the Explorer set. I would have thought that Dora would be a licenced design and I thought Brother had the licence. Does anyone know if that is the case?

Thank you for bringing that to our attention. We will look into the matter.

rescuer by rescuer 24 Sep 2014

I noticed they have Hello Kitty. I do not think they care about copyright.

sewist1 by sewist1 24 Sep 2014

It seems that way. They sell designs on Secrets of Embroidery and Oregon (not the copyright ones) but you would think those malls would be a bit careful about having an association with them.

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 25 Sep 2014

Rescuer, perhaps you should send the site and link to the Disney copyright e-mail that was posted...I can't remember where I saw it.

rescuer by rescuer 25 Sep 2014

Sewist1 -- I agree. However, I know of other contributors to that do not follow copyright.

Thank you dragonflyer, I will do that if I do not hear back from them soon. However, it is not a Disney design. The company it belongs to is just a aggressive with copyrights.

Am I wrong to say in the project section that a design came from a certain site? I have no idea of all the sites I go to have illegal designs. I can not imagine how we would know unless it were a Disney design. I don't even check them out as my grandchildren are way past Mickey Mouse. Kay

We are trying to prevent the **obvious** infractions. We don't expect that Cuties will know if the artwork was purchased correctly, however, we do know that Cuties can recognize a Disney design when they see one. We want Cuties to look for themselves. Help us protect Cute from being associated with sites that will be caught and sued for copyright violations.
We do not want the Projects to link to sites with illegal designs or even mention their names. We are trying so hard to keep Cute out possible trouble.
Thanks for asking the question.

Concerning this quote from rescuer, "That said, there have been many sites that take Cute designs and sell them. It is one of the many things our dear Veronika must deal with in order to run this site." Why can we not be informed of the sites stealing and illegally selling Ms Veronika's designs? I for one do not want to purchase from them or possibly download a free design. I totally agree with not publishing links to sites with illegal designs. Thanks for all you and the other moderators do. It is certainly appreciated by me and so many more people here.

Thank you. We do inform Ms. Veronika when we discover them. She deals with it from there.
I do not think there is a list of sites as many get shut down. Sadly many more spring up in their place. I do hope the latest push from Disney and other big names will curb that for a while.
If you ever see a design offered that looks just like one of the Cute designs -- please send the moderators a link so we can check into it.
Thanks so much!

sewist1 by sewist1 20 Aug 2014

Agree. A list of these sites would be helpful.

rescuer by rescuer 20 Aug 2014

A list is not possible. There is no realistic way to update it or to make is complete.

auntie by auntie 21 Aug 2014

Thanks rescuer for responding. I understand it seems to be more of the fly-by-night sites with Ms V.'s designs and not an "established" site. Thanks for the info.

Please recheck your posts for links to sites with obvious illegal designs.
Those that have been here a long time and know better...you will not receive another PM. One PM should be sufficient. If your freebie post is gone -- you will know why. If it is part of a huge post -- the entire post may be removed.
Also if you post asking for directions on how to get (or use) an illegal design your post will be removed.
Cute Embroidery does not need to be involved in any legal issues. Thanks for your help reporting these posts, checking sites completely before you post and your understanding. We are doing this for Cute.

How would I know? I hate to disagree with this but I am. Should I email the site and ask them? What is consuetudes an illegal design? I go to sites and see the same design as on another how would I know whether they have pirated the design? Maybe we should have no links to other sites and just mention the site? For the moderator to ban someone who is only trying to help others find a freebie, I can see removing the link but to ban someone for this is outrageous .

I do hope my edit will clarify things for you.
All of the posts removed for illegal designs receive a PM concerning it.
Also it would not be a moderator that bans anyone.
It only makes sense that the Cute site owner would want to protect her own sit

baydreamer by baydreamer 17 Aug 2014

I had seen your original post, and like I usually due I look to see if there is anything about it on the web, and I could find nothing, I found something about the Movie Frozen , but it was a large company. So beside this post on etsy what article due you have, to prove what is says is true or just hear say? I am not here to give you a hard time , I thank-you for being a moderator. But really who is to say what is legal and not, I realize when it comes to Disney designs I get it, but for other the thousands of designs out there how are we to know. I have been on sites and said to myself - wasn't that a freebie on another site and now they have it for sale. So is that site illegal ? Since they may or may not have pirated a design or is it only designs that have a copyright?

rescuer by rescuer 17 Aug 2014

Many can buy the same picture to digitize. No one can legally buy a picture of Mickey Mouse.
That said, there have been many sites that take Cute designs and sell them. It is one of the many things our dear Veronika must deal with in order to run this site.
Try not to make this too complicated.
Not that it matters because this is not a new thing...
I do have other information that Disney is aggressively going after copyright. I am not at liberty to share that with you. Any ongoing cases will not be in the media. Additionally, cases settled out of court (which most cases are) never make it to the media as their silence is part of the settlement.

And pretty much anything to do with sports teams-schools to professional teams,-logos, words, names, -will have a copyright.
