I have been using this for years in my quilting and applique. I can totally recommend it not to gum your needle and there is no ironing needed to set it.
I frequently use Stitch Witchery by Dritz. It is a fusible webbing of polyamide; washable and dry cleanable.
A friend of mine uses regular school glue (elmer's) in a small bead then sets with an iron, no steam. Works well but test it on the fabric you are using. She uses it large tote bags made of home dec fabric when putting in the zipper. I use alot of water soluable tape to hold zippers ricrac and the like. I have had no problem with it gumming up the needle. Have fun!
There are a few around but be careful because some of them give stains through the fabric when you use them. Make sure you test beforehand. I prfer to use bondaweb, diadvantage is that it leaves residue on the needle and then the thread breaks.
Carilyn don't remember what you have in Canada, but as some of the cutes have said, WalMart , Hobby Lobby, most craft stores you should be able to find it./Lillian
Hmmm yes i would like to know also Carolyn Have been putting of a fussy project because i need "underlay" to keep straight. :)
I think any fabric store would carry it or places like WalMart, wouldn't something like wonder under do the same thing? Less messy I would think. I have never used this type glue so don' really know for sure.
DOH Bev help out a oldie here, What is wonder under? Not heard of this. Thanks Pauline %)
it's probably called something else where you are ,fusible iron on webbing, iron on the back of your fabric, cut out your shapes ,add heat from the iron to set. Other names.Pellon, steam a seam etc, here is a video
