check google for www.geeks.com. They come to you, no fix no cost. Get a quote they could probably start you on the right track so you can do it yourself

In windows 8 there is COMPATIBILITY MODE which I used successfully when I upgraded. Makes older programs work with Windows 8,

Just making sure you used an online scanner -- not the one on your computer normally. If you do have a virus, your normal scanner will not see it as it would have caught it before.
Sorry he gets grumpy with you. Computers can be quite a challenge for sure. The error means the restore failed.
