DH took me out for supper last night and while we were in the restaurant one of our back windows was smashed and two pairs of binoculars, hidden under the seats were taken.

They could have taken so much more. I think perhaps they were disturbed. There are little pieces of glass everywhere. Today is Sunday so it will have to wait until tomorrow to be replaced.
ADDED LATER
What we and the police cannot understand that after breaking the glass they would have had to open the door at the back to get the binoculars out - the alarm did not go off.

Sorry to hear about your car, maybe one day car manufacturers will create a glass that won't break so easily or maybe we will have to install metal window and door covers.. lol.. heaven help us then..

Sorry to hear that!

Did you place the items under the seat at the restaurant? IF so then 'they' were watching you because this is what happened to me a few years ago when I placed something under the seat to hide it out of sight just to go into a store for a few minutes! When I returned same thing - except 'they' had used a small ball (tennis) to open the car door! A small ball is often used to pop the car lock as they cut-out a hole in the ball in order to create a suction, this is then placed over the lock and they hit it hard and the lock pops open inside!!! The cops told me & demonstrated!
It happens so quickly it is unbelievable!

Hi Sandie - good to see you here. The binoculars are always under the seat. I know that you also live here in SA and it is just something we have to live with. I must say the police have been incredible, considering that it was only a car that was broken into.

UPDATE
DH is off this morning to try and get the ball rolling. Looks as if our insurance will pay. Thank you all for your wonderful words. Unfortunately we live in hard times. It was freezing on Saturday night and we always have blankets in the car - none were stolen. I just do not understand that. **** 4 all.

Sarah I am so sad this happened to you and grateful that you and your husband are OK. This could have gotten a lot worse. I hope it will not be too costly to fix the damage.

So sorry you were violated but so thankful you are all okay. There are so many people that feel they deserve things without earning them that it is destroying our planet. I sure wish everyone would abide by the ten commandments. It would make this such a safer place. I hope they catch the thieves and you get your car fixed soon. Hugs and blessings, Barba

There are too many 'disturbed' people out. At my daughters church, cars were being broken into while the service was conducted. They had to assign members, to watch/guard the cars during service ! Can you imagine that.

How awful, it's a different world out there, we just never know who. It is sad, they should install a game camera if they have the money. On Springfield MO news there was a person stealing from mail boxes so a game camera was put in, and they showed the video from it and it was pretty obvious who the crook was, showed the car and the lady doing it. We shouldn't have to do things like that but that's what the economy and morals have come down to.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I'm glad you are ok, things can be replaced. It's such a terrible feeling to be violated. It's unusual for someone to make noise while breaking in, isn't it ? you would think they wouldn't want to draw attention. Sounds like it might have been crazy kids.

I'm thankful you weren't hurt. It is a terribly uncomfortable experience to go through. Odd they only took the binoculars, but glad that was all.

That is sad, people like that are so brazen..... I'm sorry it happened, hope they get caught. People who work hard then those that are scum to steal, what a world we live in.

Thank you Caroline. I am just so pleased that we ourselves did not disturb them. If they were armed you never know what might have happened. Police have just left the house having dusted the car for finger prints - but none were found.
