I thought that I would save myself some time by buying ready made items to embroider on. I bought a bright orange apron to put a great design on for barbecues. The laugh is on me as the fabric would go up like a light if it got near a naked flame and on closer inspection would probably fall apart as its so badly sewn. I have decided to make some aprons in a quality fabric. Anyone else been had like this?

I am no sure if aprons fall in a category to be flame retardant. In the past , I have found some fairly good quality ones at Walmart and Tuesday Morning made of a heavy duck type canvas fabric. The ones I ordered from an internet site were pitiful!!!! Kay

Try some from "Hobby Lobby" I purchased some a few months ago and got them at a reduced price. They were made out of a canvas material. Really like them.

If you really take a good look at ANYTHING you purchase these days, you find flaws. I try to buy Quality items but QUALITY CONTROL seems to be non existent , not like it was in days of yore. Sorry you had this experience. When you purchase fabric for aprons, look for flame resistant. Hugs Lillian

I only bought one to see what the quality was like. I too prefer to buy quality items but failed miserably with this purchase

Instead of a BBQ apron, emb something else or name of your church, ex: First Baptist Church ,and give it to be used in the church kitchen. I know that is not what you intended it for, but at least they could wear it when serving there, and not mess up their good clothes. Just an idea so it won't be a total waste. You will probally be much more satisfied once you make your own to use for your BBQ's.

I took that same type of apron to a craft fair to show people what they could get for the money they were offering me for my aprons. I sold a few that way.

I should hand it over to someone from Trading Standards. I would hope that aprons are covered by the same rules as nightwear.

Can you get your money back?

asterixsew by asterixsew 05 Jul 2014

It cost about $5 would you go to the effort to get that back

bevintex by bevintex 05 Jul 2014

use the fabric for something else

lenamae by lenamae 06 Jul 2014

i would go to the trouble to get my money back and in the process i would state what would happen if the apron burst into flames. you don't speak up some one else could buy one and get burned bad . I definitely would want to tell them.don't let them enjoy your money while some one gets burned by one like it.
any anything you make with it could do the same thing no way would i even keep it in my house

At our church potlucks, everything is cooked at home, I would think it could be use just to cover and protect if serving the items or refilling the bowls.

I am sure we all have. I know I have. Sometimes saving pennies is just not worth it.
