Nothing whatsoever to do with embroidery. I am wondering if any of you can give me a tip on keeping mashed potatoes warm. I looked on the internet and there are many suggestions about using a slow cooker. I tried this last night and was not very happy with the result. Any help out there????

if will depend on how long you want to keep them hot ,I cater for a large group of seniors and a chef told me to just wrap a bath towel around the pot the potato's have been mashed in , they will keep warm enough to serve for about 30 mins (that's for 10 kgs of potatoes)

For small amounts,I use the microwave...but for large parties...it's the bowl on top of the double boiler...keep the heat on low...they can go for quite a long time and stay nice and hot...

When I was growing up Mom used to have everyone over for the Holidays including Easter. She used to wrap them in foil and kept the oven on low. My own family ate them right away as four growing boys are always hungry!

I make enough for 30+ people every year for our family Thanksgiving (plus many other dishes). The way that I keep mine warm is to wrap them tightly in aluminum foil and then place the container into a beverage cooler. If you are asking about something other than transporting, I use a double boiler on medium-low so that the water in the bottom is just steaming and cover the potato container on the top.

I'd go for the microwave, but eating them straight away works for me!

I've seen tv once where the cook said to keep them over a pot of hot water. like a double boiler, a larger bowl over a smaller pot on the stove with the heat on low, the steam will keep them warm. Are you doing this for a buffet? Because if you are you can purchase serving pans that keep food warm that hold the water on the bottom pan and the food goes in the top pan and you keep it all warm with (sterno) little cans of flammable stuff that stays lit for hours. You can get this at a party supply store at around $10.00. The pans are disposable.

I hope this helps.
I 'm sorry I just realized you're from the other side of the world and you might not be able to buy the serving set for $10.00.

I think the microwave does an excellent re-heat job. I now make enough mashed potatoes for 2 meals and we don't even know they are ''repeats''.

I just put them in the oven on a low heat to keep them warm.

I used to have a little casserole dish that sat over candles. You lit them to keep the food in the dish warm. Other than that keeping them in the pot that you have mashed them up in on low heat. Giving them a burst in the microwave oven just before serving. I often put my mashed potato in the oven in an ovenproof dish and keep them warm whilst the other vegetables are roasting - especially if you are having them with a Roast. Hope some other suggestions can be forthcoming, love Chris
