The design sites stated that the designs were appropriate for marine vinyl and said one could get it at Joann's. The marine vinyl is expensive(I haven't tried any other vinyl) - but, with store coupons and the fact that the vinyl is like 60 inches wides - I only got 1/4 yard in a couple of colors. The coupons helped a lot!!! And, I also got my designs on sale over time. I have a few more different ITH designs to try out with the vinyl. It is fun and like you, I can always use ideas for men!!! 90/14 needles works great. The only vinyl I have stitched on is Marine Vinyl (purchased at Joann's). I am not sure how other vinyls would do. I do know though, not to use small designs on it as it tends to "eat" the vinyl. I just change needles as I usually do. Good luck!!

Both Embroidery Garden and Five Star Fonts have some nice designs that work well with marine vinyl.
