If you like to save all the formats, get a big hard drive - which most are these days so you can save movies. In fact I would go as much ram or a special drive to run software, and as much ram as the machine can hold - this is usually an add-on and worth the cost. I hear windows8 has problems with older software,,,, be aware

It all depends on the software you have or intend to buy.

Husqvarna/Pfaff has the following:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
• Windows®8 or Windows®7
• PC with Intel 32-bit or 64-bit processor or equivalent (1 GHz or higher)
• 1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2GB RAM (64-bit)
• 2GB hard disk space
• Screen resolution 1024 x 768, 16 million colors (1280 x 768 recommended)
• Mouse or drawing tablet
• USB port
• Internet activation required

And Embird:

Compatibility and Requirements

Embird embroidery software is 64-bit and 32-bit Windows application for PC or laptop. Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, XP compatible.

All new computers will have enough memory to allow you to install the software. Ask for a graphic card that is good enough, not the cheapest one around, as you want to zoom in on some details of your designs - 200-400 % is nice to work with, 800% or more might be what you want to check details - but you don't have to go top-of-the-range either unless you also use very sophisticated drawing software.

Hi, Each embroidery software package will have the specifications they need stated. Look at your software on the internet to find what the requirements for the software are.

Then you show this to the place where you want to buy your computer, and tell them what else you want to use your computer for.

They will tell you what computer you should buy. But make sure you go to a reputable computer dealer.

Hope this helps.

If you have not yet bought your embroidery software, look at Embird. It is a wonderful package, modular and reasonably prized.
