We are having frosty mornings but warm days here in UK at the moment. There is plenty of time yet for more cold weather. Although many people ignore it, the advice is not to plant tender things out until the end of May. I lost my runner beans to a frost on 3rd June one year!
Here in north Alabama we were told not to plant yet and all my Southern life I have been told to NEVER plant before April 16 and on April 16 this year it is to be 28 but warm the following day. I can remember having to cover lovely Spring Easter dresses with old winter coats. Ugh!!!
I never plant until Mother's Day no matter what - I've saved myself a lot of heartache from planting before that especially in the northeast
I understand, we had snow just the day before yesterday. Just enough to cover everything with cold!
Here in west Texas weather was so nice,in the 80's at time, So everyone plants a garden and last night we had a freeze, Everyone was scrambling to cover their plants. Hopefully it will be the last one but Texas does have some screwy weather at times.
Yes, I remember a Thanksgiving when I was cooking shorts and a Blue Norther came through, dropped 40 degrees in about 3 hours. (from 80's to 40's)..
We've had two nights of 30-31 degree temps here in the central USA, even had a dusting of snow Monday morning. It's just tired old man winter saying farewell, till next season. He's just trying to tell y''all he's gonna miss us til then. :P Hope all your plants survive. Leaha
I've set up a reminder for me to go out and cover the blueberry bushes after the grands leave. I hope it doesn't drift down into Florida and get the oranges again.
Oh no! hadn't thought of the blueberries! My friend has dozens of big blueberry bushes & we pick there every year!
For sure!! Freeze coming on up to Knoxville too. Gotta remember to bring those hanging plants in...others will probably be killed!
Thanks - I ran and got my hanging baskets - just stuck them all so they don't even have roots right now! (Begonias).
