Dear Cuties, My Viking Designer SE no longer turns on and boots up unless I have it hooked up to a computer through the connection port. I have had it looked at and dealer #1 wanted $300 just for an estimate and cleaning. Dealer #2 thought it was the turn on switch and the mother board for an estimated repair of $1000. Dealer #3 told me over the phone to redownload the software as a first step. When I hook it to the computer, it asks for the disc to recognize the sewing machine and I cant find it. But the sewing machine magically works just by being hooked to the computer. Does anyone have any advice or had this happen?

Dealer #4, an authorized dealer, thinks it's the turn on switch for an estimated repair of $550. He said it seems to work better when attached to the computer because it's getting a boost of electricity thru the computer. Dealer #2 thought it was the turn on switch too but told me it didn't fix anything when he changed it out, so he put the old one back in. I will hold my breath and see if dealer #4 fixes it.

The Husqvarna site DOES have the updates on the site. Click on the Support and Updates Tab at the top and go down to where it says all machines and you will find the SE listed.

Thank you. As nothing happened when I tried to open that on my iPad I assumed they wer not available, but I could open them on my computer. And downloaded the relevant one for my machine. It is always nice to have the latest machine update at hand to re-install if necessary and I lost those files when my other computer was stolen.

It is a little hard to find as our "outdated" machines don't rate a mention on the main list any more.

I love my Vikings..or did. But I would think twice about buying another now. Not sure what's happened to the company. Am sure there ARE some good dealers out there...but where???

I'd suggest you check with your dealer for Viking. They have special trade in offers. The trade in machine could be any make, model, or condition for 2,000. You may have to go for the designer to get that deal. However, there are also other deals available. But I think it is over by March 31!!!!

If I understand correctly you can switch on your machine when the embroidery unit is not attached and it sews well, but when you try to switch it on with the embroidery unit it does not. Is that the case when not attached to the computer? And can you use inbuilt designs or designs from a USB-stick?

Re-installing the latest machine update would possibly help. Unfortunately the HV-site no longer has the latest updates for all machines listed since the updated the site. But when you live in the USA you call them

Machine support
Toll free 1.800.446.2333

or write to them as the dealers don't seem to offer any support at all. Maybe they will.

So true! Not much support from dealers anymore.,unless you're willing to pay big bucks for it! Shame. Do call the toll free number & tell them the problem & that you have been given 3 different prices & fixes! I did have some luck with a very nice lady that helped me keep up with what was going on with my Diamond while it was there. The dealer had to ship it back to them. Keep us posted as to what happens.

You can download the 6D communication software from the Husqvarna site. Download and install the driver as well. I had to do that with my Diamond as Windows 7 needed the new driver.
