My laptop that was stolen in October ran on Vista. And i had Office 2000 on it. The new one has Windows 8.1 and after reinstalling the software on it ( did I hate the time that took!) it's running nicely. The new interface took some getting used too, but even this old dog learned some new tricks. My husband still uses an old desktop that runs on XP and a 10" notebook that has Vista - it was my birthday present for him 3 years ago and he had me install everything he wanted on it. You'd never guess he worked with computers since the late 60s, must have left that knowledge at the office when he retired or he knows how to delegate :)
Enjoy using your new computer!
Thank you Martine - sounds just like my husband who is for everlasting calling 'HELP' with his computer.
Good luck and enjoy your new computer Sarah. I just switched over to Windows 7 about a month ago because my computer just started going haywire on my using my original Vista program. My computer guy(my mom's computer geek husband)-tried for almost a week to clean it all up with the existing Vista but it was just a mess. Anyway-he did a complete reinstall with Windows 7-he has all the software that he has actually used for 3 of my brothers and other friends-he loves it. It is a learning process-I have been using Vista for 9 years. I am getting used to it though and all my Janome programs and software work great with it and I didn't lose anything-thankfully!! I hated being without my computer for over a week-even though we have a really nice Mac desktop in the family room-I have NEVER used that one :( - not sure I would know how to navigate on it ~linda~
Thank you Linda. I suppose it is something that we all have to live with at some time or other. Like us, our computers get old!!!
I have Windows 7 and it works beautifully with my Bernina System. Good luck and have lots of fun with your new computer.
I know that it will all work well. It is just sad saying 'goodbye' to Windows XP
My laptop died in February---tried to bring up AOL and it shut the whole thing down---took ALL NIGHT for AOL to come up---got a new laptop with Windows 8---still LEARNING to do just Basic Word----I love laptops because I can sit in FamilyRoom with Hunny and play with designs and not miss time with him---STILL LEARNING!!!!!!!!!!! The old one will be cleaned up by a computer guy and then reloaded ONLY AS A BACKUP----what did we do with out time before we got in to machine embroidery and CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
That is a very good question. I am virtually on my desk top all day so I do not think DH would be pleased if I sat with a lap top in the evening as that is our time. DH has a lap top but it stays in his study!!!!
You will love it!
You do so much for everyone here -- I am happy to help you
Hugs
Good Luck. Getting a new computer is always stressful - but it is always so nice once the initial set-ups have been done.
Good Luck Sarah! Getting a new computer is such a pain, but then once everything is installed, up, and running, such a joy! It will be great! Flowers!
oh, forgot to say, I also just got the Windows 7. Desktop is Home version. Laptop is Pro. So very easy to install and learn. Not a whole lot different than XP. You will be a happy girl soon :)
Good luck it is always a little strange when using a new computer and getting use to a new windows program as you say you will have the same keyboard and monitor so that will help
Mine crashed Sat night, tried again Sun, nothing. My GS had a new one, so I'm learning his old one (windows 8). going pretty good! Just have to figure out how to get designs and pictures off old one. LOL!
Best wishes for your new desktop. I like my desktop better than my laptop too. And I like Windows 7. I think you will be fine switching to it. I had no trouble and I am not computer savvy.
Thank you Karen. My neighbour has Windows 7 and I have helped occasionally. It looks very user friendly.
Sarah, I know you will be happy with a new computer. I recently did the same thing. I too got windows 7 and it is working very well with my software. You will not regret this decision. Hugs, Mary
Good on you Sarah, I hope it all goes well. Love Chris
