QUESTION???

I have a limit to spend each month on embroidery, I try only to spend $20.00 for designs, but lately this limit is getting harder to keep too, with all the sales and new designs or a project is posted and I think hey I think I could use that.
SO
Due you have a limit to spend on embroidery designs or due you just buy what you please each month?

Well, I like others, tend to buy only when designs are on sale...I love the ones that are reduced to $1.00!....and twice a year Secrets has their hunt going (it's on right now) where you can pick up sets for only $1.00...this is a great bargain...and I think worth the time of the hunt. I usually try to restrain myself with sites like Emb Library or From the Needle of Anne or Graceful Embroidery until the designs are on sale...I try to keep a list of what I want and pounce on it at sale time...I did to and get those darling little bunny slippers at Planet Appluque when I saw the post in Projects...come on...fifty cents! Don't know when I will use them...but come on...fifty cents! I am from the..."It's only a buck"...club...how can I not buy it?

I love that sale and yes I go a little crazy. I love playing with my embird program, so it's nice to have everything at my finger tips, and that sale is one of the ways to be able to have extra designs .

I tend to buy designs only when they are on a sale. I have my own little account in which I put any money gifted to me and sometimes top up a little. Love all the sites everyone has mentioned below. They are some of my favourites also. Have to feed my addiction LOL... Lyn

Love all the comments, I have a few favorite site, Kreations by Kara, Urban Threads, Planet Applique , Embroidery Library , I try to support designers who offer outstanding free designs, From the Needle of Ann, and Ageless Embroidery just to name a few. But I am a shameless fontaholic and when I sew them on sale I just can't stop myself. I like to have designs at my finger tips, I really hate going shopping for something, because as we all know we will see something we don't need but might need tomorrow. I think my 20.00 limit is getting an $5.00 increase... I guess I better go shopping. Thanks you all

I don't really have a budget but I just disicipline myself. If I haven't stitched out anything from my last purchase I try (Underlined!!) not to buy a new one until I do. Most of the time I do ok as there are always sales & I know I can get it later.

I have a budget myself, I don't buy that many, but have purchased a few like the bunny slippers for 50 cents myself or if someone is having a really great sale. I do work outside the home, so if I didn't do that I would probably purchase even less as hubby isn't a big fan of designs. I did make a couple of purchases from a couple of different sites that I thought I had to have before Christmas and yet to sew them out. Therefore I need to watch my wants that I don't need and may not use. lol!

I generally have two subscriptions going (which takes some of my like to keep to amount each month) and I try to only buy designs that are very reasonably priced or on a good sale (like others, embroidery library, is my weakness). Sometimes someone shows a project that to just too cute and I just have to have the design (like those darn baby bunny shoes - but at 50 cents I could not resist). I try to think about how I will use the design before I buy - although I can say I have bought things on impulse that I have used and some that I have never stitched (maybe someday). I don't have to limit what I spend - but I try to keep it to the same amount as you do.

I really don't have a limit, however if I can't see what a design might be used for I'm more apt to let it go and usually regret it. Husband is pretty lenient with pin money.

All these questions must be causing an awful lot of soul-searching for some of you. I blame that Mrs. Rescuer (or her young son) for starting it all with the question on scissors. Then another Cutie raised the matter of 'Stash' followed by Mrs. Jrob asking about UFO's and who she could send all her 'Pawn' items to. Then, up pops Asterixsew who has had an argument with one of her friends over the quality of materials used for embroidery work....................and now, how much we spend on buying designs per month!
Well, I'm perfectly happy to inform you all that I follow the philosophy that what is Ann's is mine and what is mine is my own!
I wear the trousers in my household....................................it's just that Ann tells me which pair to wear!!

I subscribe to a couple of sites, one is for 6 months the others is pay monthly (I don't count those) but I only buy designs on sale...usually $1.00 designs. Embroidery Library is my weakness. They are having a Happy Hour Sale right now and 10 designs for $10.00 you can use it up to 3 times (it will be over at midnight Sunday) I had 20 plus designs in my Wish List so I spent $20.00 to get those...but then again I have 20 really nice designs for a really reasonable price. Some months I don't spend much, others like this month I spend more. I also spend more around the Holidays because they usually have such great sales then. But no I don't have a budged for designs...if I'm short of money I don't get anything if I have a little extra and a sales comes along you bet I buy them...LOL. Signing up for the sites you like newsletters will give you the heads up on any of their sales then maybe you can stay a little closer to your budget just by holding out and hoping a good sale comes along.
Muffy :)

I probably spend about that, but I'm afraid I don't really count up. Urban Threads is my downfall - I bought 4 designs this morning so that will use up my March budget!
My friend Scottie used to wait for the days when a site had lots of one dollar deals. She would then spend a couple of hours choosing 10 designs and consider that good value as "entertainment".

Mmmmmmmm! Methinks that someone is telling porkie pies! lol

asterixsew by asterixsew 15 Mar 2014

Dennis I have heard this from Sue before and in the more rural parts of the UK entertainment is different from places closer to the big smoke

baydreamer by baydreamer 15 Mar 2014

My wish list at urban threads it up 2 about 20, I will have to wait for those 1/2 sales, it was the V.I.P at Embroidery Library or the Font at UT , EL won.

What a nice way to remember Scottie :-)

I am fortunate to not have a limit. But I admit I either purchase a membership and DL all designs or buy designs when there is a sale.

I have lots of designs and before I buy I try to check my designs to see if I have something similar. I have certain designers that I tend to buy from. I bought some designs this week but it is the first in awhile. I try and distribute my money between the designs, fabric, stabilizer, thread, etc. This week was the week for stabilizer. I also limit my freebies. Unless they really impress me, I pass them up.

That's about my budget too, but I don't always stick to it. I usually only buy designs that are on sale for a great price. I keep two memberships going, so I get my daily "fix" of new designs. But, when I have some extra time, I go window shopping and sometimes find a design I MUST have. But... I have way tooo many designs already! My rule for myself on this is: "If you don't know how you would use it, you don't need it."

Like that rule.

I set a limit and shop the sales to get the most for my money. If a design is costly I will put it in a wish later and take time to think about it. In the meantime I search my design files for something I may have I can use instead. I also think how many times will I use this design, paying a lot for a 1 time use just doesn't make sense,I have become more choosey when it comes to designs.

Hi, I don't have a limit each month but embroidery is my hobby and I am quite selective about the designs I buy.(so I don't spend much) I usually have an idea for the use of designs before I buy them. Often a few months will pass without me buying. I love Urban Threads and tend to wait to see if there is a sale. I look forwards to seeing other Cuties replies are to this question
