Look what I made for ME today.I am freezing and my feet won't stay warm unless they are on the heating pad.Well,I can't sit still, so they stay cold. Here is my enlarged and lengthened version of Avery's booties. My hubby took the photos,I'm in my fleece pj's.I had marked them for a design, and then decided to make a pair first, without designs,to see if they fit.I probally need to stitch a decorative stitch down the outer sides, to know the right from left.I hope you like them and I hope that they keep my feet WARM !!!!-Toogie....I also wanted to say,I used 3 layers of warmth, besides 2 fleece and 1 shelf liner. My 3 layers were 1 layer of that insul-brite,in between 2 layers of warm and natural batting, so it made me a sort of cushioned sole, too. So each foot has 6 layers for the sole!

very nice! i have the same cold feet problem. i have tried the fleece booties, i have to admit, i bought mine. My feet still got cold. i just picked up a pair of down booties almost by accident....HEAVEN i never thought that i would have warm feet! so if your feet are still cold grab a pair, they are not as sleek looking as yours, but they are warm and roomy enough that if my feet are cold going in I can add one of those little re-warmable heaters.

nice. the only thing better would be to make some from a heating pad and still be able to plug it in. probably not possible though. LOL

#1 showing where I added the 51/4inch at the fold. This makes it go higher up your leg.I also thought I needed to widen the leg ONLY, so I angled it out.DON"T do this, the leg wants to fall down,it's too wide,so don't angle there, just add the 51/4 at fold #2 Reminds you to also add the 5 1/4 inch,to the back piece....#3 shows my 3 layers, one of insul-brite sandwiched in 2 layers warm& natural.I sewed these together, with a 5/8 seam, then trim close to stitching.I knew I wanted to add the other layers of the sole and it would be bulky.I didn't know if my machines could handle the thickness...#4 shows I sewed to one layer of fleece first, centering away from edge 5/8 in. #5 shows I then sewed the second layer of fleece, so now your sandwich is as follows. You have 1 layer of fleece,1 W&N,1 insulbrite,1 W&N and 1 fleece...Now remember, the sole is not finished. When you start to sew the sole to the boot body, you will place a sole pc, cut out of shelf liner or giffy grip, something so you don't slip,INBETWEEN the fleece sole and the body. That way when you turn RSO your grip sole will be next to the floor. ALSO, remember when you place your body piece WST (wrong sides together) and pin to sole, make SURE you have the part with the elastic INSIDE on both boots, if you want them like mine.My elastic is on the outer fleece layer,in between the layers. If you perfer your boot to be looser on the outside, then pin WST,with the elastic part on the outside.(the elastic itself won't show- it is inbetween the fleece layers, when you place WST)Whichever way you prefer, just make sure BOTH are pinned the same, so you'll have a match pair.I know this is a lot of info and may sound confusing, but it is really not.I just wanted to let you know what I did.I also sewed my seam first on my reg sewing machine.I had to take a deeper seam at the sides, because was so wide,so I ended up sewing through all 8 layers. That is why I first sewed on reg machine, before taking to the serger.(You don't have to have a serger.I just like to have a smaller, finished seam, next to my foot.).I know some Cuties are more experienced and already know how to do,but this is hoping I have helped the ones that didn't know.-Toogie

Great idea! - hope they keep your toes cosy. Hope your winter weather is a little less severe, soon. Temperatures in the 30's in this part of the world today, but I'm shivering, just thinking about you there.

These are so fantastic, I have made the small ones for my GS. I have told my Sister about them and she is very excited, she is a size 8 too, I will have to sew the seam around the out side instead of the inside. but I will have a look at your pattern details, and have a go for her.
Thank you for your great ideas.
Hugs Pam.

Pam, remember they are really WIDE.I am re-working the pattern for a better fit.If I make the sole slimmer,I will have to adjust the front and back,so.....

toogie by toogie 29 Jan 2014

Also pam,I used a 9in piece of elastic. My ankles are small,so I think I may try 8 in next, but I don't want them tight,I'll see.I also thought about putting the warm and nat in the body part. It would add body and warmth too....

Thank you . This is a great help.

Well they look very warm and comfy, if a little wide what about a small buckle at the side.. both useful and decorative at the same time

They aren't wide at the ankle, the elastic takes care of that.It is on the sides and bill shaped toe.

These look great. I really like them. Do you have a pattern, or did you just wing it on these? I'm doing the same thing haleymax is doing...wearing 2 pairs of thick socks with a blanket over my legs & I still have cold feet. I think it finally got to 16 degrees today. It hasn't been this cold here in years...at least not stayed this cold all day.

Look back at the booties I made Avery, there is a link there,2 links actually.1 for the pattern and 1 for the instructions.I took the largest size, for a 5 year old, and enlarged it on the copy machine at 138%.Then I lengthened the front and the back piece 5 1/4 inch at the fold, to it would come up higher on my legs.Click on my name to look back.I'm not sure which post it's in.Did you get my PM ?

toogie by toogie 28 Jan 2014

Click on my name and the links are on the second page.Pattern is from newborn to 5 yrs, but Avery's 8 and they fit her.

I need to make me a pair. I'm wearing 2 pair of socks and have a blanket over my feet, but my feet are still cold. It is 19 degrees here.

I took the large kids size and enlarged it 138% on the copy machine. They were too big,I wear 8 or 81/2 shoe,so I had to take them up,but just on the sides. They are WIDE.
