A sad day but full of relief as well-We got a registered purebred black Lab dog (for FREE) back in July---not yet a year old--from a broken home---dog was left in crate 14 hours a day while Mom went to work---elem and middle school aged girls were afraid of dog---should have told us something right there--also took lady 1 1/2 months to FINALLY find a person to give dog to---hubby and me---obviously she knew there was a problem with the dog since her own girls were afraid of the dog---brought dog home--spayed---worked on training---happy most of the time--never did like ME---she almost always growled and bared her teeth at me---sitting on couch or when going out to try and play with her---then about 3 days ago she started doing the same with Hubby---last straw was yesterday and this morning when Hubby was trying to pet dog as dog was sitting by hubby's chair---she turned on him and started growling---NO MORE--She's GONE--according to him---He is a retired Marine and puts up with NO NONSENSE----he gave her every chance in the world----so she is gone----just not worth taking the chance of hubby or me getting bitten and taking the chance of a PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILD or another person getting bitten---NO ANIMAL IS WORTH THAT PRICE----just praying for healing!!!God bless y'all-----

You did the right thing. I know it was hard, but you couldn't risk anyone getting hurt. You tried, you did your best. You gave her a loving home for a few months of her life. There was no other decision. May God bless you with peace. Hugs of understanding, Jan

awww we live in the country and see alot of "dumped" animals. It seems inhumane to have them destroyed but the outcome of them not is so much worse. Rabies, starvation, infestation of fleas are all things that they could bring with them plus it does not take long for them to become wild. I have a beagle and she minds very well except the minute you open the door she is gone like a shot, she will not come when called you just have to wait her out. All my animals are fixed so I am responsible pet owner but animals need training to make them a good pet. You did all you could do not feel bad. God Bless. The actions of others made this dog go bad its a shame to see that happen. When this happens they don't have the guts to have them put down and never get another animal thy take them to the country where they know a farmer will shoot them to keep them from attacking their animals or children.

Ziggy appeared on our back porch about 2 months ago just before our Chocolate Point Siamsese died--he just appeared--he obviously had been around people, dogs, and cats---a real sweetie---he stayed and we had him neutered and all of his shots---he is a really sweet kitty---someone's toss off was our gain----helps heal the loss of Dawg--if and when we get another dog it will be a puppy straight from its mommy---thank you so much--God bless you.

This dog must have had a very traumatic incident/past that caused it to be so afraid of you and your husband. The breed is usually very docile and this is a surprise it was so skiddish. Can tell it was a dreadful decision to make.

It was EXTREMELY hard to make the decision we did because we both love the companionship of a dog--but it was AN EASY DECISION when we considered the children and grandchildren who come around---they have dogs and expect doggie to be friendly and play with them---if she growled and bared her teeth at my---I was afraid that she would hurt one of the little ones----not worth taking the chance----The LITTLE ONES and the other loved ones are MORE PRECIOUS than any animal---thank you for your kind thoughts and words and God bless you

You did all you could possibly do for this furry creature - but sometimes no amount of love can help after they have been abused. You should be very proud of all you did and don't be too hard on yourself over this - you did what had to be done (and you started out with a very good deed by taking her in the first place).

She was such fun when she was in a happy mood---I honestly think she was bipolar---I have been around many people who are bipolar----she would be happy and spry one minute---then she would get a LOOK in her eyes---a scary look--and then she would be the total opposite and start growling and snarling and baring her teeth----when she did that with Hubby that was it-----He is a retired MARINE---6'5" and about 260 pounds of muscle--BIG---he put up with it and finally said that was IT----He is sad and quiet today---but I think in a few months he may be ready for another furry friend----thank you for your kind words and encouragement---God bless you..

You tried...probably longer than anyone else would have! So right, no animal should be put above a child or human. You know you did you're best...there's another dog out that that's a sweetie that I'm sure needs a home too!!

The next dog will probably be a puppy STRAIGHT from the arms or paws of its mommy---that way we will know its background and can bring it up with love and attention that it needs--and it will probably be a small dog that can sit on our laps---unlike the big 55 pound black lab--being retired and a senior citizen--I want a warm fuzzy doggie that I can cuddle and not worry about getting knocked down by a big dog----which has happened before---thank you for your encouragement-God bless you.

I am sorry for your sadness. Some dogs just are not "right" after they have been abused and/or neglected. You and your hubby gave her a fighting chance, you did what you could do! Don't give up on another rescue. Almost all of our dogs have been rescues or strays. They have been the best dogs ever! My hubby says he thinks they are just grateful to have found their forever family that loves them and spoils them rotten:-) Lots of homeless animals out there, give another one a chance...

We were hoping this dog would work out but she did not. I miss her today--the day after she had to go---the barking outside at cats and birds and other critters---but know she is now in a better place where she doesn't have to remember the abuse she had to have gone through where she was before----thank you for encouraging us to try another rescue dog in the future after the hurt and loneliness heals---God bless you..

So sorry to read this post. I do pray that you will not be too hard on yourself. You know you've done the right thing. When you bring a dog home he/she is to be part of your family and it's a pity that this particular one just wasn't meant for you. Love Chris

It took a long time and lots of work and patience working with the dog---my husband especially---he worked with her and she was ok with him most of the time---but she turned on him---a retired MARINE---that was it---will not and would not chance her turning and biting and hurting a child--thank you for your kind word and God bless you:)

How very sad. A lab has to be one of the best natured dogs on the planet. This poor dog must have gone through hell being in a crate. How can someone do that to a dog?

We had 2 black labs before this---one was a pitbull black lab mix---she was a rescue dog and SWEET and gentle---the other a rescue full blood black lab---both gentle and sweet and loving-----the last was full blood and registered black lab---guess registered does not necessarily mean SWEET and GENTLE-----this dog and the others had a full run outside and plenty of attention---I could NEVER treat a dog or any animal to 14 hours or more a day in a crate---thank you for your kind words---God bless you:):)

Don't feel bad,You did all you could do and you cannot take a chance that this dog turns on someone especially a child, The poor dog never got a fair chance at the very beginning, not the dogs fault but the original owners. There is another dog out there who needs a loving home and is socialized, that is the dog for you
