Well look who's just about to leave the nest. I think this is the first baby to go, but am not sure. Haven't heard much noise from their nest this morning.

1. Baby chick checking out is it safe to go!
2. Mum and Dad giving him an encouraging call.
3. The Uncle/Aunt giving him a call too.
4. One last call from all three of the adult Kookaburras.
5. "Come on son", the parent seems to be giving one last encouraging cuddle.
6. One last look at me!
7. I said, "Off you go your parents are calling you" and he flew the nest.

What a difference those 3 weeks have made - if you check out my previous post - these chicks just had a few feathers on them and now they are flying! Wow, isn't nature grand?

Love Chris

I am so thankful for the time I'm given to watch the birds come and go. Of course we don't have Kookaburras, but I have lovely blue birds who nest in my back yard that I can watch and in my front yard, too.

This is amazing that you got two batches of eggs this year. Like your commentary about how encouraging the parents and extended family is to get them out of the nest. Have they been noisy and do they wake you in the morning?

Hi Anita, Oh! boy do they wake us up. They start singing about 4.30am! By the time it's 6.00 it's bright and all the birds are singing. Love Chris

Hi Carolyn, no I won't get to see him anymore - once they fly from the nest, they've gone. The parents take them off somewhere else. Love Chris

Lovely pictures Chris. The ones around here were making so much noise this morning I am sure there must be another nest up in the bush somewhere. The magpies joined in with their singing as well. Shirley

I love all these kookaburra pictures. Keep them coming. We have 3 baby kookaburras. The baby is now bigger than the mother or father bird. Always hungry

I'm afraid these will be the last ones for now. The Kookaburras won't be back till the Spring time around September here in Newcastle, love Chris
