What treasures. I would not take any of the stitching out. Just take them to a good framers and have them stretched properly. They are beautiful.
I agree too!! They look to be very old, as well as beautifully done. Trying to remove those tiny stitches could damage the fabric underneath, or at least distort it. It might look worse than leaving it as it is. A hole would be a lot harder to hide. The white just adds to the "unfinished and old" look. Hugs, Marji
I have a couple pieces in similar condition, One I will attempt to remove rows, as with yours. The others I hope to frame just as they are.
As dragonflyer says, they look like needlepoint waiting for the background to be filled in (which is the most boring job!) Removing that bit that has been done will not be easy as you could damage the canvas which would be a disaster.
I agree with the others, I think you can remove the white, just be careful. They are lovely and will look terrific framed.
Kim is right you must be very patient to remove all of the white stitches so as not to distort it & depending on the actual age of the fabric this may be a very delicate procedure. But they are quite lovely & a great find. Hugs & Best of Luck my friend.
I had forgot about them until I ran across them in my cleaning out boxes.I also found some quilt blocks. As i don't quilt,I can't tell you the block design, but it's pretty and looks old too, because of the fabrics used.
Oh...someone spent a lot of time with these two needlepoint or pettipont children...It looks like she/he started on the background in white but didn't get very far...they are lovely. If you try to remove the white stitches, try not to pull very much as the canvas holes may shift and become larger than the other holes...and you will probably have to block the entire canvas to remove the wrinkles if you plan to frame them...
I have done cross-stitch,by hand but not this.I really wanted to leave them,as I found them, except fot the white, since it was unfinished and I would like to frame them.
They are lovely and would look beautiful framed. I would definitely try to remove that white part. Depends on how patient you are. I once removed all the machine embroidery stitches from the back of a shirt that I started and all went fine until almost the end. It was a badly digitized design, but didn't show itself badly until the end. Anyway, most people told me just throw it away, but I persisted and ended up getting 99.5% of the design out and was able to embroider another large design over the area and it looks great. Good luck to you. Hugs. Nan W
I am like you,try to save, not waste.I think I will try taking them out,but not today
I do not know but they are beautiful I would frame them if I had them they look old.
Lenamae
I think they are too,Lenamae and look better in person than photo.Photo looks distorted because of the wrinkled cloth.I do believe they are old.
